Sensor Systems Engineer (All Genders)
At Stark, we forge the future of European and national security through cutting-edge, AI-driven technology and unmatched engineering precision. As a premier defence technology company, our mission is clear: to equip NATO Allies and their partners with next-generation autonomous defence platforms and advanced AI-driven software built to perform in the world’s most demanding environments.
We believe that true security stems from relentless innovation. By combining elite engineering talent with agile technology and an AI-native operational culture, Stark turns complex defence challenges into field-tested, multi-domain solutions.
WHY JOIN US
- The software and systems you work on directly protect personnel and defend European and national sovereignty.
- You will work alongside industry-leading minds on autonomous systems, advanced propulsion, and secure cyber platforms.
- We foster a fast-paced, collaborative environment where bold ideas are supported by serious R&D backing.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Perception team brings together engineers specializing in Computer Vision, Robotics, and Sensor Systems, working at the core of STARK’s autonomous technologies. The team develops AI-driven perception capabilities that enable our platforms to understand and interact with complex, real-world environments — from object detection and tracking to sensor processing and guidance. As part of the On-Vehicle AI group, you will work closely with experts across hardware, autonomy, and data engineering, turning advanced perception algorithms into robust, real-time solutions deployed directly on target hardware. You’ll contribute to technically challenging projects where software, AI, and physical systems come together, with a direct impact on the capabilities and performance of our platforms.
YOUR MISSION
As a Sensor Systems Engineer, you will own the integration, design, and programming of sensor and radar architectures for autonomous defense systems and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). You will design and implement heterogenous sensor simulation frameworks, streaming interfaces, and multi-sensor data fusion services to power real-time tactical and autonomous platforms. By bridging hardware components with advanced control algorithms, you will enable high-precision detection, tracking, and autonomous execution across demanding environments.
WHAT YOU WILL DO AT STARK
- Design, implement, and integrate sensors and radar payloads for UAVs and autonomous platforms using modern C++.
- Architect and deploy distributed, microservices-based sensor simulation frameworks using Docker, gRPC, and Protobuf.
- Develop physics-based radar and sensor models incorporating dynamic RCS, signal propagation loss, and detection thresholding.
- Implement centralized Kalman filter-based fusion services for multi-sensor tracking and outlier rejection.
- Deploy scalable AV simulation and evaluation architectures on AWS using CARLA, Docker, and OpenSCENARIO 2.0.
- Build analysis dashboards and automated data pipelines to visualize safety KPIs and sensory feedback.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, and control engineering teams to optimize multi-agent continuous control tasks.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE MISSION
- Master's degree in Control and Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong C++ programming skills and hands-on experience with sensor and radar system design and integration.
- Experience building distributed microservice architectures using Docker, gRPC, and Protobuf.
- Solid understanding of sensor fusion methodologies, Kalman filters, and physics-based signal modeling.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS S3, EC2), CARLA, and automated scenario-runner pipelines.
- Proficiency in English (C1 level) and working knowledge of German (B2 level).
- Eligibility to obtain a German / NATO security clearance.
NICE TO HAVE
- Knowledge of Deep Reinforcement Learning algorithms (PPO, MASAC, DQN) using PyTorch.
- Experience with Model Predictive Control (MPC) and autonomous vehicle trajectory modeling.
- Certifications in Self-Driving Cars, Deep RL, C++, Docker, or Kubernetes.
If you're interested in building the future of European Defence with us, and you see yourself reflected on the description above, please send us your CV in English. We're looking forward to meeting you!
