Who We Are Looking For:
SLATE is seeking a multifaceted, experienced, and technically proficient Manager, Propulsion & Thermal Systems to lead and be responsible for the propulsion, thermal, HVAC, and electric motor systems activities for our electric vehicle development programs. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in automotive engineering management, a deep understanding of electric vehicle systems, and the leadership skills to drive teams toward success.
What You Get to Do:
As the Manager, Propulsion & Thermal Systems, you will be responsible for leading the engineering and development efforts in the areas of thermal management, HVAC, and electric motor systems for electric vehicles. Your role will encompass the entire product lifecycle, from early-stage concept development through production launch and field performance. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead a diverse team of engineers focused on propulsion, thermal, HVAC, and electric motor system design, development, and integration into electric vehicles.
- Define and implement the strategy for propulsion, thermal, HVAC, and electric motor system development across all programs, ensuring alignment with overall vehicle performance, cost, and quality objectives.
- Work closely with teams across the organization including battery, power electronics, body, software, and purchasing to ensure seamless integration and successful release of vehicle systems.
- Lead all aspects of and guide the integration of suppliers and ensure effective collaboration with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers for system development and validation.
- Develop and lead the engineering roadmap for thermal, HVAC, and electric motor systems, ensuring timely deliverables across all program phases (Alpha, Beta, PV, and Production).
- Lead and support design verification activities, including test plans, validation, and verification reporting for key systems.
- Ensure that all systems meet regulatory and safety standards, including thermal management in extreme conditions and compliance with safety standards for electric vehicle systems.
- Manage the change control process, working with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to address design changes, issues, and production ramps.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and development opportunities to engineering teams.
- Establish and maintain performance standards, processes, and best practices for propulsion, thermal, HVAC, and electric motor systems development.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align team efforts with broader business objectives, product goals, and market requirements.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in automotive engineering with a focus on electric vehicle propulsion, thermal systems, HVAC, or electric motor systems.
- Leadership experience in managing engineering teams and driving collaboration across theam.
- Strong technical expertise in vehicle propulsion, thermal management, HVAC, electric motor systems, and integration of complex systems.
- In-depth understanding of the full vehicle development process, from concept to production, with a specific focus on electric vehicles.
- Strong experience in developing and implementing design verification plans (DVP), DFMEA, and system-level testing.
- Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards for automotive systems, including those specific to electric vehicles.
- Ability to mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Requirements
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related technical subject area.
- Experience in high voltage system design and release.
- Experience with the integration of electric powertrains, thermal management, HVAC, and motor control systems.
- Expertise in leading system-level design and release activities in the automotive industry, preferably in electric vehicle development.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO, IATF, and functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262).
- Experience with advanced project management methodologies and tools.
