ABOUT SLATE
SLATE, is a new US company that is exploring development in the electric vehicle space.
Who we are looking for.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and technically excellent materials engineer to support our accessories product development teams. Reporting directly to the Head of Accessories Product Management, you will focus on driving technical development and validation of a variety of materials ranging from metals, composites, films, coatings, and textiles.
What you get to do
- You will use your expertise in materials engineering to develop performance specs, DVP&R’s, technical requirements, and validation plans for a wide range of accessories products with a focus will on composites, textiles, and soft goods.
- Bring a first-principal thinking approach to varied materials with an emphasis on sustainability, durability, and color integrity over time.
- Innovate by bringing new materials to the table, while also looking for great applications of legacy materials. This includes applications of post-life accessory materials in recycling.
- Develop prototypes, conduct test plans, and develop engineering specs for our accessories.
- Work closely with Accessories Product Managers and Studio CMF managers on variant roadmaps, color mastering, validation, and release timing.
- Be scrappy and help build the materials engineering capability within a fast-paced startup. This includes identifying lab equipment, budgets, and sampling plans.
- Drive technical execution with a diverse supply base with varying degrees of material expertise.
- Lead with what you know, know what you do not, and find out what you need to know to go!
This is a senior individual contributor position and is expected to evolve with the organization and broader company.
What you bring to the Team
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry or equivalent. MS a Plus.
- 7+ years of experience in materials R&D or product development required.
- Proven track record of taking projects from concept to completion, with strong project management, analytical, and communication skills.
- Comfortable in start-up environments. You can roll up your sleeves to do the work and build or recommend the tools needed to be successful as the company grows.
- A collaborative “one company” teammate with a continuous improvement approach that is equally comfortable with engineering details and test environments.
- Capability to work cross-functionally with partners, suppliers, and vendors, building strong relationships that produce positive results.
- An ability to be an effective brand representative and ambassador to the Re:Car community, both presenting the Re:Car vision and collecting input that leads to the development of future accessories.
- Proven experience leading without direct authority. You will be working across org charts and company lines to drive program success.
