Who we are looking for:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Environmental, Health, and Safety Engineer (EHS) professional to join our manufacturing engineering organization. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and prodcutive working environment, particularly in the context of launching new automotive vehicle projects. The EHS Engineer will work closely with teams across the organization to implement effective safety measures and environmental practices, considering the unique requirements of automotive manufacturing facilities.
Central Midwest location in a highly desirable mid-size community. Must be willing to relocate to Slate manufacturing plant location.

What you get to do:
- Prioritize safety above all to protect our team members, partners, and customers.
- Develop and implement EHS programs and policies, with a focus on automotive manufacturing facilities and projects.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams and all other stakeholders to integrate safety measures into the planning and execution of facilities and manufacturing projects, especially those related to launching new automotive vehicles.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards in both facility and manufacturing settings.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental, health, and safety in automotive manufacturing.
- Provide EHS expertise and support during the design and construction phases of new facilities and manufacturing lines working with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors, emphasizing the specific risks associated with automotive manufacturing.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with facilities and manufacturing teams to develop emergency response plans for automotive production scenarios.
- Implement and monitor environmental programs, including waste management and water and emissions control
- Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes related to EHS in automotive manufacturing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain a safety culture within the manufacturing engineering organization.
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field (Advance degree preferred).
- Proven experience as an EHS Engineer with a focus on manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices, particularly in an automotive manufacturing context.
- Experience in developing and implementing safety measures for facilities and manufacturing projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams within the manufacturing engineering organization.
- Knowledge of emergency response planning for manufacturing scenarios.
- Familiarity with environmental programs and practices. Automotive preferred
- Experience in incident investigation and corrective action implementation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS software tools.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant certifications.
- Experience in automotive manufacturing a plus
- OSHA certification is a plus
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in integrating EHS measures into the launch of new automotive vehicle projects.
- Building and implementing EHS policies and procedures from scratch a plus.
