Who we are looking for:
We seek an enthusiastic and responsible self-starter to join our Field Team as a Field Marketing Specialist (also known as a Slate Field Agent). This is an exciting opportunity to join a start-up company and shape its future. As a cornerstone member of the Field Team, you will act as the authentic voice of Slate as you execute in-person experiential marketing events across the country. You will work closely under the guidance of your Manager to achieve shared goals, however a keen ability to make sound decisions without direct supervision will be paramount to your success. You will work as an operational decision-maker at events, leading and mentoring your Slate Agent colleagues. You will work as a Brand ambassador at events, evangelizing our products to guests. Your goal will be to develop relationships with our event visitors, educating them on Slate, our products, and Brand. A successful Slate Field Agent will easily build trust and excitement with guests and be comfortable guiding them to take action, such as capturing their information so they may stay informed, aiding them in the purchase of a product, or connecting them with our Inside Sales & Customer Success Team for further handling. The ideal candidate will carry with them a deep sense of responsibility as the face of our Brand to our clients, championing our Mission. Communication skills, both written and verbal, are of utmost importance. A high tolerance for ambiguity and demonstrated success in operating in uncertain environments would set the great apart from the good.
What you get to do:
- Build Relationships: You will represent Slate at events for several hours talking to hundreds / thousands of people as you travel across the country. You will interact with folks from all walks of life, taking interest and listening, while educating them about Slate, our Mission, and our products.
- Create Regulars: Help create amazing experiences for guests that they will bring up later at the dinner party. As the in-person face of the Brand, you will need to speak plainly, communicate with authenticity, and without judgement. We are looking for someone who wants to help us build a community.
- Illuminate and Guide: Proactively engage with guests at events with curiosity, seeking to understand the ‘why’ behind their questions and guiding them to explore further on their own. This may include guiding a guest to sign up for our marketing to stay informed, place a reservation for our product, or purchase merchandise.
- Support and Follow Up: Aid your leadership and other internal partners with the physical set-up and break-down of events as well as deliver on any follow-up promised to guests of the event. Maintain a high level of communication between internal partners to ensure customers are taken care of as promised and details of each event are not missed.
- Learn and Initiate: Learn from the expertise of those around you and demonstrate initiative by proactively working to resolve operational and customer service concerns using your best judgement when your Manager is not present. Work with the understanding that the customer experiences you are responsible for are of significant impact to our young company.
- Guide & Advise: Be a role model of excellence amongst your peers and provide event-level leadership and mentorship to those around. Provide analysis of and reporting on event processes, seeking relentless improvement. Discuss operational recommendations to your Manager, surfacing event-level opportunities and suggested solutions going forward.
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree is preferred, but not required given relevant and commensurate professional experience.
- 5+ years of proven experience in Sales or Customer Service roles, ideally with electric vehicles, their ownership, and electric vehicle charging. Considerable events experience is a plus.
- In-person, fast-paced retail, front desk customer service, high-volume service center, or brand ambassador experience is very applicable.
- Naturally high energy, friendly, outgoing, confident, patient, and an optimistic problem solver. You must be excited to talk to the public at large and answer the same question 50 times daily with a similar level of animation.
- Willingness to travel and operate on an irregular schedule based on business needs and tour program.
- Exceptional communication and listening skills, with an ability to fluidly discuss both technical and generic topics in plain language.
- Positive attitude and demonstrated success in conducting oneself in challenging physical environments, a respectful and responsible ‘whatever it takes, get it done’ approach.
- Lengthy track record of delivering excellent results, outstanding performance.
- Team-first mentality, a desire to see those around you level-up, and a desire to be a part of that growth.
- Passionate to work for a disruptor in the automotive industry, particularly with EVs.
- Exceptional communication and listening skills with an ability to fluidly discuss both technical and generic topics in plain language.
- Fearlessness and initiative, extremely hardworking, does the right thing when no one is looking.
- Transparency, integrity, and honesty, you are not afraid to admit when you are wrong.
- Driven to achieve excellence in every aspect of your role, ‘pretty good’ does not cut it.
- Ability to work independently with modest supervision and in a team environment.
- Experience with automobile transactions is a plus, including financing, registration, and trade-ins.
- Resilience – a curious, fast learner who takes ownership of their role and is open to receiving feedback.
- Ambiguity – comfortable with making decisions without full information, learning quickly, and adjusting. An understanding that you will be a part of creating processes and procedures, not following them.
