Who we are looking for:
We are seeking a highly experienced and technically skilled EHS Manager, Fire Safety & Risk Engineering to lead fire protection, life safety, and property risk engineering initiatives across our manufacturing operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and resilience of our facilities, particularly during the design and launch of large-scale greenfield and brownfield projects. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in fire protection engineering, a strong understanding of industrial and automotive environments, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams and external partners.
What you get to do:
- Develop and enforce technical fire protection specifications for buildings, equipment, and processes.
- Review and approve fire and life safety system designs for compliance with IBC, IFC, NFPA, and other applicable codes and standards.
- Standardize battery safety and property risk engineering practices across all operational sites.
- Serve as the primary liaison to property insurance carriers, ensuring alignment on risk mitigation strategies and compliance with insurer requirements.
- Establish and lead on-site fire safety and emergency response teams, including training, drills, and readiness assessments.
- Support greenfield and brownfield site development, providing fire safety and risk engineering expertise from concept through commissioning.
- Conduct fire risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations, driving continuous improvement and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Facilities, Operations, and external consultants to integrate fire safety into all phases of facility and equipment lifecycle.
- Monitor regulatory changes and emerging technologies to ensure ongoing compliance and innovation in fire protection.
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in fire protection and risk engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably in the automotive or heavy duty vehicle sector.
- Expert knowledge of IBC, IFC, and NFPA codes (NFPA 13, 30, 70, 72, 101, etc.).
- Proven experience with large-scale brownfield site design and construction projects.
- Proven experience with fire modeling, egress analysis, and performance-based design.
- Strong background in hazardous materials design / handling, and property risk mitigation.
- Technically proficient in interpreting drawings and schematics to support effective engineering solutions.
- Passion for continuous improvement, innovation, and building safe, sustainable manufacturing systems.
- Highly adaptable and proactive, excelling in fast-paced start-up and new model launch environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams and managing stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Attributes:
- Professional certifications, such as CFPS, CSP, or PE (Fire Protection), are highly desirable.
- Strong background in battery safety is highly preferred.
- Experience with greenfield projects is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Experience working with insurance underwriters and risk consultants is a plus, but not a requirement.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to travel, both domestic and international (up to 25%).
- Must have the ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Must have the ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
