HPC & Systems Engineer
About Slate
At Slate, we’ve got one job: building a vehicle you’ll fall in love with, right here in the USA. We believe that car buyers — not car companies — should call the shots. We like looking at a road, not a screen. We don’t like paying for stuff we don’t need. We like picking out the stuff we do need. We think dings are badges, not blemishes. But we know not everyone likes what we like. So, we built you a Slate: you make it yours.
Who we are looking for:
We are seeking a highly skilled HPC & Systems Engineer to design, implement, and support advanced computing and IT infrastructure for engineering, manufacturing, and enterprise operations. This role bridges high-performance computing (HPC) and enterprise systems engineering, ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable platforms that meet the demanding needs of simulation, design, and production in the automotive industry.
What you get to do:
- HPC Infrastructure & Support
- Design, deploy, and manage HPC clusters for CAE, CFD, crash simulations, and AI/ML workloads.
- Optimize job scheduling, storage performance, and workload distribution across clusters.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to tune applications for maximum performance and scalability.
- Systems Engineering & Operations
- Manage enterprise systems including Windows, Linux, and hybrid cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
- Oversee Active Directory, identity management, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and enterprise storage/backup solutions.
- Monitor system health, capacity, and performance, ensuring 24/7 reliability for mission-critical environments.
- Automation & Security
- Develop scripts and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to improve system efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices across HPC and enterprise systems, ensuring compliance with ISO 27001, NIST, and industry standards.
- Support disaster recovery planning, patching, and vulnerability remediation.
- Collaboration & Support
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and IT teams to deliver robust solutions for MES, ERP, and PLM integration.
- Provide Tier 3 support for HPC workloads, enterprise applications, and system escalations.
- Document system designs, configurations, and operational procedures.
What You Bring to the Team
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering with at least 2+ years in HPC environments.
- Strong knowledge of Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Windows Server administration.
- Experience with HPC schedulers (Slurm, PBS, LSF) and engineering applications (ANSYS, NASTRAN, MATLAB, etc.).
- Expertise in cloud integration (Azure, AWS) and hybrid computing strategies.
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) and automation frameworks.
- Familiarity with networking (InfiniBand, Ethernet, VPNs, firewalls) and storage (Lustre, GPFS, SAN/NAS).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across engineering and IT teams.
