Network Engineer
About Slate
At Slate, we’ve got one job: building a vehicle you’ll fall in love with, right here in the USA. We believe that car buyers—not car companies—should call the shots. We like looking at a road, not a screen. We don’t like paying for stuff we don’t need. We like picking out the stuff we do need. We think dings are badges, not blemishes. But we know not everyone likes what we like. So, we built you a Slate: you make it yours.
Who we are looking for:
Slate is looking for an energetic, organized, and experienced Network Engineer to join our growing team. The Network Engineer will be responsible for the deployment, and maintenance of network infrastructure that supports Slate's IT and OT (Operational Technology) environments, including manufacturing plants, office spaces, and connected vehicle ecosystems. The ideal candidate will bring experience with secure network architecture, advanced troubleshooting skills, and a deep understanding of automotive industry requirements, including cybersecurity standards.
What you get to do:
- Configure, and deploy scalable and secure network infrastructure for office, plant, and R&D environments.
- Collaborate with IT and OT teams to support manufacturing systems, robotics, and infrastructure
- Monitor and maintain network health across WAN/LAN, SD-WAN, VPN, and wireless networks.
- Proactively optimize network performance and reduce latency for critical applications, including production systems
- Conduct regular network assessments and vulnerability scans to ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network issues in real-time to minimize downtime, especially in high-demand manufacturing environments.
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 network support for IT and OT
- Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including architecture diagrams, IP schemas, and device inventory.
- Prepare regular reports on network performance, incidents, and key metrics.
What you bring to the team:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 8-10 years of experience as a Network Engineer, ideally within the automotive, manufacturing, or telecommunications industries.
- Proficiency with Cisco, Fortinet, Ubiquity and/or other major network hardware and software.
- Experience with firewall management, VPNs, SD-WAN, and network monitoring tools.
- Hands-on experience with wireless networking, VLANs, and network segmentation.
- Certifications: Fortinet, CompTIA Network+, or similar certifications preferred.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
