SLATE is looking for a dynamic, organized, experienced Commercial Accounting Manager to join our growing team.
As the Commercial Accounting Manager at Slate, you will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of our innovative electric vehicle startup. You’ll be responsible for managing accounting activities related to our revenue streams—including vehicle sales, spare parts, and accessories—ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. You’ll help implement and maintain systems and processes that strengthen our accounting controls and support our mission to deliver affordable electric vehicles and transform the automotive industry.
| WHAT YOU GET TO DO
- Manage accounting processes related to revenue recognition for vehicle sales, spare parts, and accessories, ensuring compliance with ASC 606.
- Maintain and improve the sales recognition and transaction process to ensure accuracy and completeness in revenue reporting.
- Support the design and testing of IT systems and controls to ensure complete and accurate data capture for all sales processes and warranty.
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls and accounting policies to support accurate revenue recognition.
- Track customer deposits and deferred revenue, ensuring alignment with ASC 606 and internal reporting standards.
- Handle accounting for contra revenue accounts, including discounts, returns, and warranties.
- Supervise and support junior accounting staff, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Sales, Operations, IT) to ensure consistent application of revenue recognition policies.
- Stay informed on relevant accounting standards and industry practices and assist in implementing updates as needed.
- Manage accounting functions related to finished goods inventory, including valuation and reporting, and support strategies for inventory control.
- Maintain the warranty reserve calculation process and collaborate with service and operations teams to analyze trends and adjust reserves.
- Support the accounting function’s role in the end-to-end order-to-cash (O2C) process, including order intake, invoicing, collections, and revenue recognition.
- Help operationalize accounting workflows within the O2C process to ensure accuracy and compliance across financial touchpoints.
| WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
- 6–8 years of accounting experience, with 3–5 years in automotive environment.
- Solid understanding of revenue recognition principles, especially ASC 606.
- Proficiency in accounting software and tools; NetSuite experience is a plus.
- Strong financial analytics skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets, identify trends, and provide actionable insights that support strategic decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Proficient in data analytics tools and techniques, leveraging Excel, ERP systems, and BI platforms to build dashboards, automate reporting, and enhance visibility into key financial metrics.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills across departments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a demanding environment.
- A forward-thinking approach dedicated to enhancing processes and optimizing operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with automotive industry standards.
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior team members.
