Director of Product Patient Journey (CONTRACT)

Seattle

About Us

At SleepDoctor.com, we're helping millions get a full night's rest. As the most trusted name in sleep health, we make better sleep possible with proven support, clear answers, and hands-on care that fits real life. Across our brands—SleepDoctor.com, SleepFoundation.org, and SleepApnea.org—we combine clinical expertise with consumer-first experiences to help people understand their sleep, tackle real challenges, and wake up to healthier, more energized lives. If you're passionate about making better sleep possible—and want to help reshape the future of sleep care—we'd love to meet you.

About the Role

Every person who comes to SleepDoctor.com is on a journey. From the first moment they suspect something is wrong with their sleep, through diagnosis, treatment, therapy, and the years of ongoing care that follow. That journey spans marketing, telehealth consultations, diagnostics, e-commerce, fulfillment, insurance and billing, and long-term therapy adherence, and it touches nearly every system and team at Sleep Doctor.

We're looking for an experienced product leader to step in on a 16-week contract basis and own the end-to-end product strategy and roadmap for the SleepDoctor.com patient experience while our Director of Product, Patient Journey is on maternity leave.

You'll maintain continuity on an existing roadmap, keep cross-functional work moving with Engineering, Data, Marketing, and Clinical teams, and make sound day-to-day prioritization calls. We’re looking for someone who can come in with fresh eyes and new experience to enhance the vision and continue forward momentum.

This role sits within the Product organization and reports to the VP of Product for the duration of the contract. You will partner closely with Engineering, Data, Marketing, Clinical Operations, Care teams, and Customer Support, and you will be a key voice in how SleepDoctor.com thinks about patient experience and health outcomes at a company level during this period.

Success in this role means the patient journey roadmap keeps moving with minimal disruption, cross-functional partners stay aligned, and the returning Director has a clear, well-documented handoff of decisions and progress made during the engagement.

What You'll Do

Own the Patient Journey Strategy

  • Advance the vision: enhance, carry forward and adapt the existing quarterly vision and strategy for the end-to-end patient journey, from first touchpoint through consultation, diagnosis, purchase, fulfillment, therapy, renewal, and re-engagement.
  • Own the roadmap: Manage and prioritize the existing roadmap across the journey, balancing patient experience, clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and business impact.
  • Get up to speed fast: Quickly build a working picture of the current-state journey across brands and systems—Shopify, Zoho CRM, Canvas Medical, NikoHealth, Customer.io, billing, and supporting integrations—so you can make informed calls from week one.

Drive Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Coordinate across the product org: Align with the product managers and associates who own individual stages of the journey (including the Care Journey Product Manager) so their roadmaps stay coherent with the broader patient journey strategy.
  • Partner with Engineering and Data: Partner with Engineering and Data to scope, sequence, and deliver improvements to the systems and pipelines that power the patient journey.
  • Partner with Marketing: Work with Marketing to keep campaign strategy and lifecycle communications aligned with the roadmap.
  • Partner with Clinical and Care teams: Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Care teams, and Customer Support to understand where patients get stuck and to design solutions that work in practice, not just on paper.
  • Represent the patient journey: Communicate roadmap status and results clearly to executive stakeholders, and represent the patient's voice in company-level planning.

Measure and Improve Outcomes

  • Own the metrics: Track and report on the key metrics for the patient journey—conversion, activation, therapy adherence, renewal, and retention.
  • Find the friction: Use funnel data, cohort analysis, and qualitative research to identify friction points and prioritize fixes.
  • Run experiments: Continue or launch experiments across the journey, and turn results into changes to the product, the roadmap, or the underlying systems.

Leverage AI

  • Accelerate the team: Champion the use of AI tools to accelerate discovery, documentation, and delivery across the product team.
  • Improve the journey: Identify opportunities to use AI to personalize the patient journey and automate repetitive operational work.

Handoff and Continuity

  • Document decisions: Keep clear, well-organized documentation of key decisions, roadmap changes, and stakeholder context throughout the engagement.
  • Plan the transition: Prepare a thorough handoff for the returning Director, ensuring a smooth transition back at the end of the contract.

What You Bring To The Role

  • Experience: 8+ years of product management experience, with a track record of owning strategy and roadmap for a complex, high-stakes product area.
  • Ability to ramp quickly: Demonstrated ability to step into an existing roadmap and ongoing cross-functional relationships and be productive within the first few weeks, given the fixed-term nature of this engagement.
  • Domain background: Experience owning a complex, multi-stage customer or patient journey that spans multiple systems and teams; healthcare, telehealth, or subscription consumer health experience is a strong plus.
  • Strategic thinking: A track record of translating ambiguous, cross-functional problems into a clear strategy and a well-sequenced roadmap.
  • Analytical rigor: Comfort working with funnel and cohort data, dashboards, and experiment results to make prioritization decisions; SQL proficiency is a plus.
  • Systems fluency: Working knowledge of the systems that power a modern patient or customer journey—CRM, e-commerce, lifecycle marketing platforms (e.g., Customer.io, Klaviyo, Zoho, Zendesk), and clinical or billing systems.
  • Influence without authority: A track record of earning trust and driving alignment with Engineering, Data, Marketing, Clinical, and executive stakeholders—and with peer product managers—without formal authority over any of them.
  • Patient-first mindset: A genuine interest in improving patient outcomes and experience, not just business metrics.
  • Availability: Able to commit to a 16-week engagement starting by 11/20.
  • Preferred: Experience with health insurance workflows, healthcare compliance (e.g., HIPAA), or clinical operations is a strong plus. Prior experience in interim or fractional product leadership roles is also a plus.

Who We Are

  • We are Human First because our patients and teammates are why we're here.

  • We're going to push you to ask big questions and find bold answers. Everyone has a seat at the table, regardless of their title or job description.

Compensation

$100- $115/hr — final compensation is subject to the candidate's specific qualifications, experience, and location, as well as the needs of the company. This is a  contract position; with an estimated 20-30/hrs a week.
