POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Material Planner to join SMA America's Supply Chain and Operations team. This role is responsible for purchasing materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors to ensure a stable and consistent flow of goods that supports SMA's operational requirements. The Material Planner determines the right order quantities and timing by obtaining vendor quotes and coordinating closely with internal departments and external suppliers.
This is a salaried position that offers flexibility in how and when assignments are completed within the scope of established responsibilities. The role is hybrid, with in-office presence expected on Tuesdays and Thursdays at our Rocklin, CA headquarters.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Procurement and Inventory Management
- Create and maintain purchase orders using SAP
- Communicate with suppliers regarding order status and changes in delivery dates or quantities
- Monitor, expedite orders, and resolve discrepancies with quality and quantity of goods
- Balance inventory levels with product availability
- Help with annual cycle counts, identify, and troubleshoot inventory discrepancies using SAP
- Help with inventory of materials by storing items in warehouses or distributing them to work sites
Planning and Reporting
- Collect, analyze, and summarize data and purchasing trends for inventory planning to support customer demand
- Create and maintain reports and present data to management
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to keep materials up to date on order status, changes, and delays as well as procedure implementation
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with departments including Service, Sales, Project Management, and Operations to ensure that materials are available and meet order specifications
- Participate in internal and external audits
- Other duties as may be required or assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent years of experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in supply chain, procurement, or materials planning
- Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of supply chain
- Basic knowledge of working with warehouse and third-party logistics providers
- Proficiency with SAP or similar PO management systems preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Organized with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong time management skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience as a Buyer or in a purchasing-focused role
- Experience working within a supply chain function in a technology or energy-related industry
- Familiarity with 6S methodologies

- Base salary range of $70,500 to $78,000 annually, dependent on experience
