Transportation Analyst

LOCATION AND WORK MODEL
This position is hybrid, based at our Rocklin, California headquarters, with in office presence on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

WORK AUTHORIZATION
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis. SMA America does not offer employment visa sponsorship of any kind, including H-1B, OPT, CPT, or TN visas. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Transportation Analyst supports the Manager of Transportation and the Manager of Planning, Purchasing and Logistics by managing shipment tracking and monitoring, in transit reporting, customs compliance, and shipment issue resolution. The role also maintains system data so rates and transit times stay accurate. This is an advanced individual contributor role and does not carry supervisory responsibility.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports import and export documentation in line with customs regulations, laws and procedures.
  • Ensures products comply with CBP regulations using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and the Code of Federal Regulations, and maintains HTS codes on all items in SAP.
  • Requests and compiles import documentation, including customs invoices, certificates of origin and cargo control documents, and serves as liaison with government agencies.
  • Validates customs broker invoices for payment approval and resolves invoice disputes.
  • Manages Large Scale project shipments from import through delivery to site.
  • Manages tasks and projects with a higher level of complexity.
  • Enters shipments into the Transportation Management System, TMS, and maintains records of items transported.
  • Tracks KPIs for bill of lading and label creation, and for freight quotes provided to the sales organization.
  • Performs data analysis on transportation costs and services.
  • Works closely with internal stakeholders, customers and carriers.
  • Shares expertise and supports training for Transportation Coordinators and other SMA employees as needed.
  • Stays current on changes to import and export laws and regulations.
  • Other duties as may be required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience on either the carrier or shipper side.
  • Working knowledge of all carrier modes, including air, parcel, ocean, full truckload, less than truckload and flatbed.
  • Proven carrier management experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer service focus.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience maintaining and using a TMS.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Creative thinking, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • A highly motivated self starter with strong time management skills.

Extent of responsibility: Regional.

  • Compensation: $70,500 to $89,000 per year, dependent on experience and qualifications.
