Sr. Director, Marketing Operations

Job Overview:
We are looking for a Sr Director of Marketing Operations to join our high-performing marketing team in a time of exciting growth. In this role, you’ll provide strategic leadership and oversee day-to-day execution of the company’s marketing operations team.

This Sr Director of Marketing Operations role at SmartBear is a mission-critical leadership position, responsible for enabling marketing to scale effectively, deliver exceptional customer experiences, and contribute meaningfully to revenue growth. The ideal candidate is a transformational leader, equal parts strategist, technologist, and operator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise-Wide Marketing Operations Strategy
    • Develop and lead the global marketing operations vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with SmartBear’s enterprise goals.
    • Serve as a key advisor to the CMO, contributing to long-term planning and strategic initiatives across Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success.
    • Drive operational transformation to scale global marketing initiatives efficiently and predictably across all segments and regions.
  • Marketing Technology Ecosystem Leadership
    • Own the global marketing technology stack, overseeing strategy, implementation, integration, and governance of tools like Marketo, Salesforce, CDPs, ABM platforms, and BI tools.
    • Partner with IT and data teams to ensure system scalability, performance, and innovation aligned with business needs.
    • Establish clear frameworks for evaluating and adopting emerging marketing technologies.
  • Data Strategy, Insights, and Attribution Modeling
    • Define and manage the organization’s marketing data strategy, ensuring unified data governance, integrity, and utilization across the funnel.
    • Lead the development of a global marketing analytics infrastructure to measure performance, marketing contribution to revenue, and customer lifecycle trends.
    • Champion sophisticated attribution models and forecasting tools that support revenue operations and business intelligence.
  • Operational Excellence and Process Optimization
    • Architect the end-to-end marketing planning, budgeting, and campaign operations processes to enhance agility and scalability.
    • Oversee global campaign execution workflows and drive alignment between Marketing, Sales, Product, and Finance for seamless go-to-market execution.
    • Implement robust frameworks for performance measurement, program ROI, and continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Team Building
    • Build and lead a high-impact, geographically distributed marketing operations team, including leaders in analytics, technology, and campaign operations.
    • Promote an inclusive, collaborative culture that prioritizes accountability, innovation, and excellence.
    • Guide the development of career paths, succession planning, and capability building across the operations function.

Qualifications:

  • Experience & Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred.
    • 10+ years of experience in marketing operations, with at least 7 years in senior/executive-level leadership within a global SaaS or enterprise tech environment.
    • Demonstrated success scaling operations in a complex, multi-product, multi-region B2B organization.
  • Strategic & Technical Expertise
    • Mastery of marketing operations disciplines including lead management, ABM, pipeline acceleration, campaign operations, data strategy, and lifecycle marketing.
    • Extensive experience overseeing enterprise-level marketing technology ecosystems and integrations.
    • Advanced knowledge of marketing analytics, including attribution modeling, customer segmentation, and predictive performance forecasting.
  • Leadership & Business Acumen
    • Proven ability to drive organizational change, foster alignment across cross-functional teams, and lead high-performing teams at scale.
    • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and present to board-level audiences.
    • Experience owning multi-million-dollar budgets and leading strategic planning cycles for global marketing teams.
  • Global Mindset & Operational Rigor
    • Experience managing distributed teams and driving alignment across global business units.
    • Deep understanding of compliance and data privacy (GDPR, CCPA) as it applies to marketing operations.
    • Highly skilled in balancing strategic leadership with hands-on execution as needed.
