About this role:
As a Technical Writer Specialist at SmartBear, you will play a key role in helping users understand and adopt our products. You will transform complex technical information into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation. Your work will directly enhance the user experience by ensuring content is well-structured, intuitive, and easy to follow.
In this role, you will:
· Write, update, and refine user-facing documentation.
· Collaborate with engineers and other writers as you document new features and plan documentation deliverables.
· Conduct content reviews and ensure timely publication aligned with product release cycles.
· Work with UX designers to maintain clear and consistent UI terminology and interface text.
· Apply information design principles and follow established style guidelines to ensure high-quality, consistent content.
· Improve documentation efficiency by adopting automation, streamlining workflows, and leveraging AI tools to enhance content development and quality.
· Support cross-team activities aimed at strengthening documentation practices and advancing the technical writing discipline.
We are looking for you if you have:
· 4+ years of experience in software technical writing with a proven ability to deliver clear, accurate, and user-focused documentation.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible way.
· An educational background in software engineering, computer science, linguistics, technical communication, or a related field.
· The ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
· A solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and how documentation supports product delivery.
· Familiarity with documentation tools and workflows, including authoring platforms, content management systems, and docs-as-code practices.
· Working knowledge of Git, version control workflows, and collaboration practices commonly used in engineering environments.
· Experience using or experimenting with AI-driven tools to support content creation, editing, or workflow optimization.
· Advanced English proficiency (C1 or equivalent), ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency in all written content.
