Senior Backend Engineer

Are you an ambitious engineer ready to take on meaningful challenges and accelerate your growth? We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our 250+ person Product & Engineering organization at Smartly.

Our engineering team builds the systems that power creative automation for some of the world’s largest brands. We enable them to turn a single idea into high-performing, global campaigns by building scalable, reliable infrastructure and services that operate at massive scale. Increasingly, we’re also developing AI-driven workflows that help customers generate, adapt, and optimize creatives in smarter ways.

As a backend engineer, you’ll design and build robust services, APIs, and data pipelines that power our product end-to-end. You’ll work on challenges around scalability, performance, and reliability, ensuring our systems can handle large volumes of data and complex workflows with ease. You’ll collaborate closely with frontend engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver features that our customers will genuinely love and depend on.

Our backend stack is built around Node.js and TypeScript, and we place strong emphasis on writing clean, maintainable code and building systems that scale. We care deeply about engineering craftsmanship, product quality, and continuous improvement, always looking for better ways to build, simplify, and operate our services.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will:

• Have end-to-end ownership of a new platform integration
• Design, build and monitor data-intensive microservices systems
• Collaborate closely with other engineers, product managers and designers to deliver cutting edge solutions for our clients
• Take part and facilitate team activities such as dailies, retros and brainstorming sessions
• Coach and mentor other members of the team to follow best practices and industry standards
  
  

What we are looking for:

• Experience in backend development using modern technologies such as Node.js and Typescript
• Experience in building robust, complex and distributed web applications
• Motivation for solving customers problems and delivering value to customers at a fast pace
• Strong collaboration skills & ability to coach other engineers in the team
• You are able to work on-site at our Mexico City office 3 days per week
