Senior Engineering Manager

We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join Smartly’s Creative Engineering group to lead a team responsible for building and maintaining integrations with multiple advertising platforms. The team plays a key role in enabling Smartly’s creative offering by ensuring our systems connect seamlessly with external partner APIs and services at scale.

The team designs, builds, and operates high-scale integration services that are relied on by some of the world’s largest advertisers. These integrations are a critical part of how creatives are delivered, managed, and optimized across channels, making the team’s work central to the overall product experience.

The main technologies used by the team include:

• Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes
• React for selected UI workflows
• Deep integrations with external advertising platforms and the broader Smartly infrastructure

As an Engineering Manager, your role is to ensure the team focuses on the highest priority work with predictable timelines, delivering high quality outcomes with clarity of purpose, while building reliable and scalable systems that our customers can trust.

What you’ll do:

• Lead and facilitate an autonomous Fullstack team responsible for the end-to-end delivery of channel integration, working closely with your product manager counterparts to align priorities and drive impact.
• Champion team member growth through coaching, regular 1:1s, and clear personal development planning, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Identify blockers and tackle ambitious technical problems to add your mark to our engineering culture.

What we’re looking for:

• You are an experienced people leader with proven ability in building and leading high-performing teams
• You have experience throughout the full software life-cycle in an environment with high-availability demands and active user-base
• You have experience in various agile development practices as well as the pragmatism to know which tradeoffs are acceptable and a sharp focus on delivery.
• You have empathic and user-focused mentality: you care deeply about the product experience, you understand users’ motivations and frustrations, and you genuinely want to help them
• You are comfortable being hands-on to guide the team on technical decisions, system design and best engineering practices.
• You have the ability to work from our Helsinki office three days a week
