Job Description

As a Solutions Engineer at SmartRent, your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with the sales team and provide technical expertise and support throughout the sales cycle. Your role is critical in understanding customer needs, designing solutions, and effectively communicating the value proposition of SmartRent’s products and services from a technical perspective. You will work closely with clients, sales representatives, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful product adoption and customer satisfaction. In this position, you will report to our Vice President of Sales.

 Responsibilities

  • Technical Expertise: Develop a deep understanding of SmartRent’s products and services, including their technical specifications, capabilities, and integration points. Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to SmartRent’s solutions.
  • Sales Collaboration: Partner closely with the sales team to support them in all technical aspects of the sales process. Participate in customer meetings, presentations, and demonstrations to understand customer requirements and align SmartRent’s solutions with their needs.
  • Solution Design: Analyze customer requirements and propose tailored solutions that address their specific challenges and goals. Collaborate with internal teams such as product management, engineering, and implementation to gather technical information and develop compelling solution architectures.
  • Presentations and Demonstrations: Prepare and deliver effective presentations, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept activities that showcase the value and capabilities of SmartRent’s solutions. Clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Technical Support: Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to clients, including answering product-related questions, troubleshooting issues, and addressing concerns. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely and effective resolution of customer issues.
  • Proposal Development: Contribute to the development of sales proposals, including technical documentation, solution diagrams, and pricing models. Collaborate with the sales team to ensure proposals align with client requirements and provide accurate and compelling information.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a Solutions Engineer or similar role
  • 2+ years of technical sales or high-level customer facing experience
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in IoT platforms, cloud services, and protocols such as MQTT, CoAP, or RESTful APIs. Familiarity with sensors, gateways, networking technologies, and data analytics tools. Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and smart home technologies is advantageous.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts and solutions to diverse audiences. Active listening skills to understand customer requirements and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess customer challenges and design innovative solutions. Ability to think creatively and adapt solutions to meet unique customer requirements.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including sales, product management, engineering, and customer support. Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to travel 25%-40%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Previous experience in IoT solution design, deployment, and project management is highly desirable.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and smart home technologies is advantageous.
  • Experience working in the multifamily rental industry or PropTech industry
