Job Description

You own the mobile platform layer: the native module boundary, the build and release pipeline, and the performance and stability budgets. Feature engineers ship on top of what you build, and your work is measured by how fast they can do that without writing one-off bridge code.

This is a hands-on IC role. You will work in Swift and Kotlin for native code and in JavaScript most days. You decide when a device integration becomes a shared native module instead of a one-off, and you say no when it should stay in JS.

Candidate based in Phoenix, AZ is preferred to come to our headquarters in North Phoenix on a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain the shared native modules that power device control and other hardware-specific features across our apps
  • Plan, sequence, and schedule React Native and native platform upgrades, including related dependency work, without stalling feature delivery
  • Own the iOS and Android build, signing, and store submission process, and keep it documented so any engineer on the squad can cut a release and new engineers can build on day one
  • Define targets for crash-free session rate, cold start time, and binary size; instrument and alert on them; and advocate for them in planning when a feature puts one at risk
  • Partner with backend teams early on payload shape, pagination, real-time device state, and error semantics before APIs are built
  • Set code review standards, mentor other mobile engineers, and document technical decisions so they outlast the conversation
  • Collaborate with other squads on shared mobile patterns, and with Product, QA, Customer Success, and Marketing on release scope and timing

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years shipping mobile apps on both the App Store and Google Play
  • 3+ years of production React Native experience, including building and maintaining native modules
  • Deep expertise in Swift or Kotlin with working fluency in the other, and comfort reading platform SDK source when documentation falls short
  • Experience leading at least one significant platform migration or major React Native upgrade from planning through delivery
  • Backend experience (Node, Elixir, or similar) sufficient to collaborate on API design as a peer
  • Hands-on experience integrating hardware, BLE, or other connected-device protocols from the mobile app side
  • Experience working in a fast-paced and  high-growth environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with offline-first state management and conflict resolution on unreliable networks
  • Experience delivering accessibility and localization at scale in React Native
