Director of Customer Marketing

Position Overview: 

SmartyPants is looking for a self-motivated, dedicated, and strategic-thinking individual for the position of Director of Customer Marketing. 

The Director of Customer Marketing will play the crucial role of connecting the dots between Brand Marketing, Key National and Regional Retailers, and shoppers—delivering overall business goals for both the brand and the retailer. This individual is the main interface of Marketing with the Sales Organization and will be responsible for helping drive growth in Retail through increases in distribution and improving velocity. The Director will play a leading role in the development of both customer growth and shopper marketing strategies.  

 What You’ll Do: 

 Customer Growth 

  • Be at the forefront of increasing business performance visibility for leadership and key stakeholders, playing a pivotal role in propelling our brand forward. 
  • Own the brand’s data and analytics function, helping lead development of data platforms/tools to synthesize Brick-and-Mortar Retail and eCommerce business performance data to help shape go-to-market strategies and in-market performance. 
  • Lead development of National Line Review and Customer meeting presentations through the creation of powerful selling stories, rooted in insights on brand equity, innovation, and category management syndicate data. 
  • Partner with internal functions such as Sales Strategy, Finance and Brand Innovation to develop channel strategies from development to execution to performance tracking. 
  • Drive influence with Customer partners by providing winning Shopper Marketing plans and results, and through retail-focused initiatives including EXPO West. 

Shopper Marketing 

  • Lead Shopper Marketing program, determining annual plans to drive velocities with best-in-class Shopper Marketing that is highly efficient and focused on SmartyPants’ top 5 customers. 
  • Manage Shopper Marketing budget across total Retail landscape, including Omni, and deliver against key business results and financial KPIs. 
  • Collaborate across Sales and Marketing teams to ensure shopper marketing programs are aligned with a business plan and drive visibility both in-store and online across key retailers and marketplace channels like Instacart. 
  • Manage partners and their scope of work to ensure successful execution of Shopper Marketing programs achieving forecasted objectives in alignment with the budget. 
  • Work closely with Communications team to coordinate national and Customer-specific activity to best leverage tentpole moments and maximize efficiency. 
  • Review and approve executional elements (artwork, etc.) for Shopper Marketing programs including understanding of POSM, digital, social, and related channels/platforms. 

People Management 

  • Act as a mentor and leader to Customer Marketing team, ensuring all team members are supported and challenged to exceed expectations in their role. 

What You Have: 

  • 5-10 years of related experience working for a CPG company, ideally split between Sales and Marketing. 
  • 2-5 years of experience in sales strategy or a field sales position.  
  • 2 years of Brand, Integrated Marketing, Shopper Marketing and/or experience a strong plus. 
  • Proven success in leading teams and developing talent. 
  • Very strong verbal, written, and visual presentation communication skills. The candidate will be very comfortable presenting to Field Sales and our Retail Partners. 
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; attention to detail. 
  • Strong leadership and collaboration with cross-functional teams are critical for alignment to strategies and executions. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in translating big data into actionable insights and selling stories.  
  • Proven experience in taking overarching communications strategy into tactical execution 
  • Ability to stay focused on key priorities and bring solutions to drive distribution and grow consumption. 
  • Commitment to results; ability to incorporate new learning into existing plans and act decisively. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with all personality types and behaviors; flexibility. 
  • Ability to work effectively in and adapt to a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. 
  • Must be interested in learning and adapting to a rapidly shifting landscape.

The pay range for this position is $155,000 - $175,000. SmartyPants Vitamins takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs. This position is bonus eligible. SmartyPants Vitamins employees are eligible to participate in our benefits plan. Should the employee choose to participate, they can choose from a range of benefits to include, but is not limited to, health insurance, retirement savings benefits, life insurance and disability benefits, parental leave, sick leave, paid vacation and holidays. Any coverages for health insurance will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans and associated governing plan documents.
