Technical Program Manager (Contact. Contract to Hire)
We’re on a mission to democratize AI by building the definitive AI data development platform. The AI landscape has gone through incredible change between 2016, when Snorkel started as a research project in the Stanford AI Lab, to the generative AI breakthroughs of today. But one thing has remained constant: the data you use to build AI is the key to achieving differentiation, high performance, and production-ready systems. We work with some of the world’s largest organizations to empower scientists, engineers, financial experts, product creators, journalists, and more to build custom AI with their data faster than ever before. Excited to help us redefine how AI is built? Apply to be the newest Snorkeler!
At Snorkel AI, we are pioneering new approaches to data development. We are seeking a motivated and organized Technical Program Manager (TPM) to oversee program infrastructure and enablement—spanning technology, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and resource management—for a team of Operations Managers and Associates. Reporting to Delivery Management, this high-ownership role focuses on creating the processing, resources and systems that drive operational efficiency, scalability, and impact. We’re looking for someone who is entrepreneurial and high agency to join the early team—this person is not afraid of blank space and is eager to embrace scrappiness, experimentation, and quick iteration.
This role is a contract position for now - assuming we find a mutual fit within the first 3 months, we have high confidence this will be converted to a permanent position. The rate for the first 3 months of this project will be $85/hour (open to OT).
Main Responsibilities
- Oversee the development of technology, SOPs, and resource workflows to support Operations Managers and Associates in executing their responsibilities efficiently and autonomously.
- Design and maintain workflows using tools such as Airtable and SQL to optimize data handling and streamline operations. Serve as the human-Zapier to connect and enhance disparate systems, creating seamless workflows.
- Collaborate with engineering, research, and delivery teams to create dashboards, queries, and reporting pipelines that enhance visibility into operations and resource utilization, effectively enabling decision making.
- Design, refine, and maintain operational workflows and SOPs to standardize best practices across projects. Effectively breaking down silos to continuously improve for scalability and impact.
- Partner with the People team and Ops leaders to identify and address resource needs, manage capacity, and ensure the right allocation of personnel and tools for program execution.
- Monitor and report on program performance metrics. Provide regular updates on program progress, risks, and issues. Propose and implement corrective actions as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
- 4+ years relevant work experience in program or project management, specifically focused on enabling operations teams through process and infrastructure development.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with tools like Airtable/similar platforms/basic Python scripting. Skilled in designing and executing queries and building reporting pipelines.
- Proven track record as a human-Zapier, connecting systems and building workflows that reduce manual effort and improve outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to create and refine SOPs and workflows to standardize operations.
- Comfortable taking projects from 0 to 1 and 1 to 2, with the flexibility and confidence to experiment, iterate, and scale effectively in dynamic environments.
- Experience managing human data labeling/annotation projects. Understanding of data development processes and AI technologies such as large language models (LLMs) is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PMI-ACP) are a plus.
- Previous experience working at a startup is a plus.
