Our Opportunity

As a Principal Software Engineer at Snyk you will be a member of the wider Engineering Team and will own and facilitate technical leadership for the group/division to fundamentally improve Snyk products. You will be accountable for the strategic technical direction of the company, in alignment with business goals and for fostering an environment of collaboration, inclusion, and mentorship, through leading by example.

You’ll Spend Your Time:

  • Run and manage production systems at scale, both to shape the product and to coach and develop the team.
  • Sponsor and drive initiatives to raise the quality of our product.
  • Help other engineers improve technical skills, approaches, and practices. Delegate, encourage others to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them. 
  • Dialogue with customer-facing technical staff and sales leadership on a regular basis to understand customer needs as they relate to group products and technical architecture.
  • Support initiatives and mentor others to raise the quality of Snyk products, including improved test coverage, reduction in defects, and improved usability over the next decade.
  • Actively engage in coding.
  • Build bridges across the division, including engineers, managers, and stakeholders. Facilitate collaboration across Snyk. 
  • Create awareness of Snyk-wide challenges and drive discussions to build creative solutions with a decade-long perspective.
  • Model patience and sustainable working for the division.
  • Ensure incremental and predictable changes to Snyk's systems.
  • Engage engineers across the division and enable them to implement innovative solutions and learn from mistakes. 
  • Grow great engineers into technical leaders.

What You’ll Need:

  • Deep technological expertise.
  • A thought leader with a background in tackling complex technological problems, finding creating solutions and driving excellence
  • Experience working with one of our development languages, or are a polyglot with experience learning a new language.
  • Expert knowledge of your favorite statically typed programming language (Go or TypeScript preferred).
  • Experience providing technical leadership for large teams building products from scratch and evolving them to enterprise scale through iterative delivery.
  • Experience creating buy-in and change across an organization by evangelizing key initiatives & championing organizational behavior change.
  • A background in mentoring, coaching and developing Software Engineers of all levels.
  • In excess of 12 years of experience, including delivering at a similar level / role type previously
