The Job at a Glance

As a Head of Product Engineering at Soda Health, you'll manage teams who are responsible for feature delivery centered in our proprietary software platform. Partnering with our Director of Product and our general managers, you are a trusted advisor to the business, using your technical background to steer feature delivery to meet the sweet spot which satisfies immediate business goals and creates a system with lasting value. Your work will directly and positively impact the lives of everyday people who are older and/or have lower incomes, making healthcare more accessible and personalized for underserved populations – our products make a tangible difference in people’s lives. 

What You Will Do 

Working within an organization created at the intersection of health care, retail and financial technology, no two days will look the same. Your work will include: 

  • Ensuring technical designs are correct and guiding teams as needed; recognizing when buying vs. building may be a better choice. 
  • Collaborating with other engineers on technical matters; settling debates when needed. 
  • Managing project delivery estimation, with a strategy for tradeoffs between delivery and debt 
  • Coaching and developing others, including new-in-role managers and staff engineers 
  • Gathering and analyzing data to prove or disprove a hypothesis you have about engineering performance and priorities 
  • Managing a staffing plan aligned with product priorities, including addressing deficiencies in our capabilities and succession plan for key roles 
  • Benchmarking our software delivery pace against comparable organizations 

You will build a capable, nimble, high-performing engineering team and hire excellent engineers. You set the tone, and it is positive with high expectations. You set the pace, and it is fast.

About You 

While every candidate brings a unique resume and perspective, an ideal candidate will include:  

  • 7+ years managing engineering managers and teams 
  • A track record of developing managers and partnerships with business colleagues; be ready with references 
  • Hands-on engineering skills in a relevant discipline 
  • Experience quantifying success or failure based on your own data and code 
  • Practiced ability to work with business stakeholders to understand goals 
  • Love of presenting and demoing your work so others can understand 
  • Solid computer science fundamentals 
  • Bachelor’s degree or similar experience strongly preferred   

Other Requirements

  • Occasional travel may be required from time to time as part of the role, for company events and business needs.   
  • Soda Health is a remote-first, distributed workforce. Candidates should be comfortable with, and equipped to work within, a distributed remote team, including having reliable internet access and basic home office equipment. Soda Health will provide a really nice work laptop, and mouse/keyboard upon request.
