The Director of Technology owns the operational backbone of technology at Solaris spanning Platform Engineering, Cyber Security, IT Governance, Enterprise Technology, and Data & Analytics, so that our products ship fast and safely under regulatory standards. In this role, you are responsible for the running, securing and governing remit of technology - ensuring the platform is reliable, secure, compliant, and cost-effective.
Your Role
- Formulate a comprehensive technology strategy that aligns with Solaris business goals.
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing Technology leaders. Recruit and retain top technology talent, building a team capable of meeting Solaris technology objectives.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of all IT systems and infrastructure with particular focus on enterprise systems.
- Regularly assess risks and vulnerabilities in Solaris IT infrastructure and implement measures to mitigate these risks.
- Develop and manage the technology budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources for maximum ROI.
- Communicate effectively with other department heads, ensuring technology alignment with their business needs.
- Ensure the IT infrastructure is robust, scalable, and efficient to support Solaris operations and growth.
- Ensure Solaris is in compliance with all relevant regulatory, data protection and cybersecurity regulations.
- Report to the senior management and board about technology performance, initiatives, and how they contribute to overall business objectives. Prepare and present technology-related compliance reports to regulatory bodies as required.
- Oversee the successful execution of technology projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the intended goals.
- Ensure a smooth rollout of new systems or features, with minimal disruption to bank operations.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive, hands-on IT or Technology or Engineering leadership experience, including a proven track record leading leaders and multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural technology teams, preferably in highly regulated environments.
- A modern leadership mindset with a strong people focus - you mentor, role-model, lead by example, and create empowerment and trust.
- Deep understanding of platform management, cybersecurity, and regulation, with the ability to translate requirements into practical, scalable solutions.
- Strong grasp of modern IT concepts and architectures (e.g. Docker, microservices, SOA, AWS).
- Strong soft skills - you’re proactive, take ownership, and collaborate confidently; you learn fast and can explain complex topics clearly to different audiences.
- A hands-on, structured, and agile way of working, combined with curiosity, drive, openness, and creativity.
- Start-up or scale-up experience - a strong comfort level operating in an environment with pace, ambiguity, and constant change.
- Fluent in English; German is a plus
Working Model:
- If you’re working from Berlin, we’d be happy to have you in the office two days per week.
- If you’re based elsewhere in Germany, we ask that you travel to Berlin for a few days each month for stakeholder collaboration, and other important onsite touchpoints. Monthly trips are reimbursed in line with our travel policy.
