What You’ll Do

Sol de Janeiro is seeking a Director, Integrated Communications – Americas to lead the brand’s earned ecosystem across Communications and Influencer Relations in our largest and most influential market.

This role is responsible for building the strategies, teams, and programs that transform launches, partnerships, cultural moments, talent activations, and brand storytelling into meaningful conversation, advocacy, and cultural relevance. As the leader of the Americas (US, Canada, LATAM) earned organization, the Director oversees both Communications and Influencer Relations, ensuring all earned efforts are strategically aligned, fully integrated, and connected to broader business objectives.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Global Integrated Marketing, Communications & Culture, this role serves as the Americas market’s primary architect of earned strategy and a critical bridge between global priorities and local execution.

The Director partners closely with Culture, Partnerships & GTM, Product Marketing, Creative, Retail Marketing, Global Integrated Brand Media & Talent, Sales, and Americas leadership to ensure every major launch and cultural moment achieves maximum visibility, relevance, and impact.

This leader combines exceptional communications expertise with strong cultural instincts, business acumen, and leadership capabilities. They understand how modern brands earn attention, how creators influence culture, and how earned storytelling drives commercial outcomes.

What You’ll Be Working On

Lead the Americas Earned Ecosystem

  • Develop and lead the overarching earned strategy across Public Relations, Influencer Relations, creator engagement, brand storytelling, product communications, and cultural activations.

  • Create a unified approach that brings Communications and Influencer Relations together behind clear strategic objectives.

  • Establish annual earned priorities, planning frameworks, operating rhythms, and performance expectations.

  • Ensure earned activity builds brand heat, strengthens brand equity, drives consumer demand, and supports broader business priorities.

  • Serve as the senior leader responsible for how Sol de Janeiro shows up and participates in conversation across the Americas.

Translate Global Strategy Into Market-Relevant Execution

  • Partner closely with global stakeholders to translate brand strategy into culturally relevant execution across the Americas.

  • Evaluate global initiatives through a local market lens and identify opportunities to maximize earned impact.

  • Localize launches, partnerships, cultural moments, and activations while protecting the core brand idea.

  • Advise leadership on marketplace behavior, media trends, creator dynamics, consumer shifts, and emerging cultural opportunities.

  • Act as a strong voice for the Americas within the broader global organization.

Lead Communications & Influencer Strategy

  • Oversee integrated earned strategies across fragrance and body launches, hero products, brand campaigns, retail activations, partnerships, talent programs, and cultural moments.

  • Lead earned media strategy, narrative development, product storytelling, executive visibility, corporate communications, and partnership communications.

  • Oversee the brand’s creator and influencer ecosystem, including always-on advocacy and launch-specific programs.

  • Ensure creators are selected strategically based on audience alignment, cultural relevance, advocacy potential, and business objectives.

  • Build strong relationships with key editors, media leaders, creators, and industry influencers.

  • Challenge teams and agency partners to think beyond traditional publicity and create programs that generate outsized attention, advocacy, and engagement.

Drive Brand Heat & Cultural Relevance

  • Identify opportunities for Sol de Janeiro to participate in culture in meaningful and authentic ways.

  • Develop earned strategies that enable the brand to generate attention beyond the scale of paid investment.

  • Partner with Culture, Partnerships & GTM to identify emerging trends, consumer shifts, partnerships, and conversation-driving moments.

  • Balance short-term visibility with long-term brand building and sustained consumer desire.

  • Ensure Sol de Janeiro continues to strengthen its authority and cultural relevance within beauty, fragrance, and beyond.

Lead Teams, Agencies & Reputation

  • Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary Communications and Influencer Relations organization.

  • Establish clear goals, priorities, decision-making processes, and performance expectations.

  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, curiosity, creativity, and continuous improvement.

  • Oversee Communications and Influencer agency relationships, including strategy, scope, budget, performance, and accountability.

  • Serve as a senior communications advisor to the business, partnering with Legal, People, Executive Leadership, and Americas leadership on sensitive communications and reputation matters.

  • Develop issues-preparedness and escalation frameworks and provide strategic counsel on emerging reputational risks.

Measure Impact & Drive Operational Excellence

  • Establish scalable processes and planning rhythms that strengthen integration and execution across earned channels.

  • Develop measurement frameworks that demonstrate the impact of Communications and Influencer investments.

  • Evaluate performance across brand heat, share of voice, earned reach, creator advocacy and engagement, brand health, launch performance, and commercial impact.

  • Translate performance and insights into executive-ready business reviews and recommendations.

  • Use data and insights to continuously improve strategy, investment decisions, and organizational capabilities.

Must Haves

  • 10+ years of progressive experience across Communications, Public Relations, Influencer/Creator Marketing, Integrated Marketing, or related earned disciplines.

  • Significant experience developing and leading integrated Communications and Influencer/Creator strategies for a consumer-facing brand.

  • Proven experience building strategies that connect earned attention, cultural relevance, and storytelling to measurable brand and business outcomes.

  • Strong understanding of the modern earned ecosystem, including media, creators, social conversation, partnerships, cultural moments, and consumer advocacy.

  • Exceptional storytelling, narrative development, and strategic communications skills.

  • Strong cultural instincts and the ability to identify emerging trends and opportunities before they become mainstream.

  • Proven people leadership experience, with the ability to coach, develop, and inspire high-performing teams.

  • Demonstrated success leading and holding external agency partners accountable for strategy, execution, and performance.

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and navigate a highly cross-functional organization.

  • Experience leading through growth, transformation, and organizational change.

  • Experience within beauty, fragrance, fashion, lifestyle, or another culturally relevant consumer brand is strongly preferred.

Salary Range

$160,000 - $180,000 USD
