Materials Engineering Intern (Fall 2025)
Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Materials Engineering Intern to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate is currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies focused on materials, chemistry, engineering or related field.
The Materials Engineering team supports the production, research/development and characterization of new solid state battery electrolytes. This role will gain hands-on experience performing several characterization techniques (electrochemical, physical and chemical). This role will work alongside our engineers and contribute to essential and highly visible projects within Solid Power.
Job Duties:
- Work closely with and under the direction of Engineers to execute planned experimentation aimed at optimizing current sulfide solid-state electrolytes.
- Assist Engineers in material characterization, data acquisition and analysis.
- Perform regular and required housekeeping such as lab and glassware cleaning.
- Ensure safe handling and proper disposal of hazardous materials and equipment.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related degree from an accredited college/university.
- Experience in material characterization techniques including rheology, SEM/EDS, DSC/TGA, XRD, FTIR, EIS.
- Comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment is required.
- Experience in synthetic chemistry is a plus.
- Experience with statistical and relevant software (D.O.E Design of Experiments)
- Knowledge of Li-ion battery materials optimization and synthesis.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
- Ability to work in gloveboxes and dry rooms.
Hourly Compensation: $22-$25/hour
Schedule: 15-20 hours per week during Fall 2025 semester
