Technology Integration Intern (Spring 2025)
Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Technology Integration Intern to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate is currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies focused on engineering, chemistry, or related fields.
Job Duties:
- Work closely with and under the direction of scientists and engineers to execute planned experimentation in the lab and on pilot production equipment.
- Support cell design & process development efforts throughout the product development cycle with a specific focus on chemical and electrochemical characterization and optimization.
- Utilize analytical instruments including (but not limited to) DSC, Rheometers, DMA, and FTIR.
- Utilize analytical techniques such as tensile testing, cell testing, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Communicate results and make recommendations for future experimentation or formulation improvements for our electrolyte and conductive slurry recipes.
- Support lab experimentation through sample preparation, data collection, data analysis, diligent maintenance of records, and accurate reporting of data.
- Always follow facility and laboratory safety rules and regulations.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
- Must have experience in an academic or industrial lab environment. Classroom experience, such as organic chemistry laboratory classes, may be considered.
- Experience and comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment is required.
- Experience in material characterization techniques including rheology, SEM/EDS, DSC/TGA, and particle size analysis are a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite required.
- Experience with electrochemical and battery cell techniques preferred.
- Knowledge of Li-ion battery cell operation, performance, and failure modes preferred.
- Experience in testing and validation of Lithium ion/Lithium battery rechargeable cells preferred.
- Foundation in statistical design (D.O.E.) with relevant software experience is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s program in a STEM field, junior/senior level preferred. Students in a master’s program will also be considered.
- Experience with battery science and data analysis is a plus.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
- Ability to work in gloveboxes and dry rooms.
Hourly Compensation: $22-25/hour
Schedule: 15-20 hours per week during spring term 2025
