Staff, Full Stack Engineer
About the Role
As a Staff Engineer, you’ll own end-to-end features across our backend services (Ruby on Rails or TypeScript/Node) and our Angular/TypeScript front end. You’ll work under minimal supervision, troubleshoot complex problems, and help shape our core monolith and emerging TS microservices while collaborating closely with product, design, and QA. You will potentially work with AI enabled tools and services. However you do not need deep data science knowledge.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable Rails or TypeScript/Node services and RESTful APIs
- Implement and extend Angular/TypeScript UI components for web experiences
- Optimize PostgreSQL queries and service performance
- Collaborate with cross-functional squads to define requirements and deliver features
- Potentially work on ai agents, mcp servers and various AI enabled tools and frameworks
- Identify and drive process, architecture, and toolchain improvements
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and pair-programming
- Serve as a technical lead on complex projects, balancing scope, risk, and engineering quality.
What does success look like?
- 30 days: Ship a backend feature (Rails or TS) end-to-end and demo it to the team
- 60 days: Lead a cross-team API enhancement and propose a performance or scaling or testability refactor
- 90 days: Lead a system-level architectural improvement (e.g., introduce a TypeScript microservice or refactor a critical service for scalability), including a clear design, implementation, and rollout plan in place or executed against..
Who You Are
- 8+ years building web services or full-stack applications
- Strong hands-on experience in Ruby on Rails or TypeScript/Node back ends
- Solid Angular/TypeScript front-end skills
- Deep understanding of REST, PostgreSQL, and performance tuning
- Proven ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term technical investments.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where requirements evolve.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
- Experience integrating LLMs or AI-driven features
