Job Description
The Lab Operation group at SonoThera is seeking to hire Surgery Technician to become an integral part of the vivarium operations team. This position requires adaptability and an ability to perform at a high level in a fast-paced, start-up environment. The qualified candidate will have animal care, surgical and anesthesia experience for mice. The person in this role will need to feel passionate about working with animals, enjoy and excel at organization, and support and maintain a clean, safe and compliant working environment. This is an on-site position, Monday through Friday.
What You Will Accomplish:
- Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of mice as needed.
- Use applicable software for the tracking of surgery mice.
- Successfully perform minor surgeries on mice, such as Jugular Vascular Cannulation (JVC), Artery Vascular Cannulation, and Soft Tissue Surgeries (Vasectomy, Splenectomy, Ovariectomy).
- Assist with the maintenance of catheterized animals.
- Provide dosing in mice including IM, IV, SQ, and orally.
- Perform tissue biopsies, necropsy, euthanasia and organ harvest.
- Follows protocol to ensure the health and welfare of the animals in care.
- Cares for mice including feeding, cleaning and surgery support responsibilities.
Technical Requirements and Skills:
- Experience in animal husbandry, breeding, weaning, health monitoring, documentation, and record keeping.
- 5+ years of mice surgery experience required.
- Previous experience dissecting mouse organs (brain, kidney) for isolation of specific anatomical structures.
General Requirements:
- High school diploma or Associate degree in Animal Science or related area preferred.
- Pertinent work experience (such as laboratory, veterinary or surgical experience) may be substituted for education.
- Completion of training equivalent to the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification of AALAS required.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $104,000 to $114,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data, including potential adjustments for geographic location.
