Job Description
The Lab Operation group at SonoThera is seeking to hire a Lab Manager to become an integral part of the lab operations team. This is an on-site position requiring adaptability and an ability to perform at a high level in a fast-paced, start-up environment. A qualified candidate will have broad experience in supporting laboratory operations. The candidate should be passionate about working as a team player, enjoy and excel at organization, and support and maintain a clean, safe and compliant working environment. .
Responsibilities:
- Organize, direct and manage the laboratory support staff. Serve as the primary point of contact between various research groups.
- Manage the ordering and restocking of common supplies, and coordinate with vendors for optimal pricing and delivery.
- Lead lab safety training sessions for new hires and employees needing recertification (e.g., bloodborne pathogens, chemical safety).
- Ensures effective operation of all laboratory equipment and serves as point of contact for instrument repairs.
- Provides technical input to purchasing and other functional areas.
- Responsible for development of tracking procedures, establishment and maintenance of service contracts and warranties with vendors.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures for lab equipment and processes, ensuring consistency and quality across all operations.
- May organize and participate in vendor negotiations, product and software evaluations, tutorials and facility modifications.
- Interfaces with employee health and safety and acts as a liaison between departments and the scientific staff to complete lab modifications and ensure safety compliance.
- Oversee chemical management, review new chemical approvals, and ensure proper chemical storage, segregation, and compliance.
- Manage laboratory on-site inspections and conduct EHS audits, lead chemical exposure programs, identify EHS workplace hazards and implement corrective actions to ensure a safe workplace.
- Lead Large Quantity Generator requirements and develop contingency plans for waste management.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA requirements.
- Contribute to the organization and delivery of special projects related to facilities management (e.g., facilities buildouts, modifications, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned.
Technical Requirements and Skills:
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Flexibility and comfort working in a quickly changing environment.
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
- Able to lift 30lbs or more comfortably.
- Be able to climb ladders, push and maneuver pallets of supplies ranging in weight from 25 to 400 lbs.
General Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, or a related field.
- 7+ years of industry work experience in lab safety, biosafety, and hazardous.
- 5+ years of managerial experience.
- Experience in using procurement platforms (e.g., Quartzy, Prendio, etc.)
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $106,000 to $133,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data, including potential adjustments for geographic location.
