Location:  South San Francisco, CA 

Reports to: Senior Scientist 

Work Schedule: Full-time, primarily Monday–Friday. Requires availability to work on  weekends (Saturday–Sunday), with adjusted days off during the week

The Gene Therapy group at SonoThera uses a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and forward-thinking approach to solving many of the current challenges facing genetic medicine discovery and drug development. Job Summary:  

The Gene Therapy group at SonoThera is seeking to hire a Research Associate to become an integral part of the gene therapy drug development effort. We seek candidates who think critically and have the desire and ability to learn new techniques. This position requires adaptability and an ability to perform at a high level in a fast-paced start-up environment. A qualified candidate will have broad technical experience in molecular biology and nucleic acid purification process development.   

What You Will Accomplish: 

  • Independently performs downstream purification of DNA gene therapy vectors at small and large scale. 
  • Performs analytical assays to evaluate the quality of purified DNA. 
  • Prepares technical reports and presentations to communicate experimental outcomes to internal teams and senior management. 
  •  Presents scientific data in both written reports and verbal presentations to internal teams and stakeholders. 
  • Accurately records experimental procedures, observations, and process data. 
  • Must work weekends as part of the work schedule, based on project or operational needs. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences (e.g. Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field) with 1-3 years of relevant postgraduate research or industry experience. 
  • Expertise in low and large-scale DNA production technologies. 
  • Familiarity with routine in-process analytics to support process development (e.g., DNA concentration, DNA purity, endotoxin). 
  • Strong ability in execution and driving for results independently. 
  • Familiarity with ELN platforms ideally with Benchling. 
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team to achieve technical and corporate milestones. 
  • Strong record-keeping and organizational skills. 

 

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $95,000.00 to $110,000.00 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data, including potential adjustments for geographic location.
