Position Summary
Sony Honda Mobility of America (SHMA) is seeking a highly skilled EHS & Facilities Operations Manager to lead environmental health, safety, and facility operations at our Southern California Delivery Hub in Torrance, CA. This role is critical in developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive EHS programs with a strong emphasis on automotive and EV-related high-voltage and battery safety. Additionally, the EHS & Facilities Operations Manager will ensure that facility operations run efficiently, supporting vehicle deliveries, testing, and customer experiences.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive EHS expertise in an automotive or EV environment, coupled with proven facilities management experience to drive compliance, operational excellence, and employee safety. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strategic planning, risk management, and regulatory expertise to optimize workplace safety and facility functionality.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead all EHS programs ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA 70E, Cal/OSHA, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop and implement high-voltage safety programs to protect employees working with EV battery systems, charging infrastructure, and high-voltage components.
- Conduct risk assessments and facility-wide audits, identifying and mitigating hazards through corrective action plans.
- Manage hazardous materials, waste disposal, and environmental sustainability programs to comply with regulatory requirements and corporate sustainability goals.
- Oversee facility operations, including preventative maintenance, energy efficiency programs, vendor coordination, and infrastructure improvements.
- Establish and lead emergency response programs, including high-voltage safety training, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and EV battery storage procedures.
- Implement air quality, water usage, and sustainability initiatives that align with corporate environmental objectives.
- Ensure OSHA recordkeeping compliance, lead incident investigations, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety.
- Enforce NFPA 70E electrical safety standards and ensure adherence to best practices in high-voltage EV operations.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to optimize facility workflows, equipment maintenance, and operational efficiency.
- Manage vendor and contractor compliance to ensure EHS and facility maintenance standards are met.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and corporate leadership, addressing EHS concerns, inspections, and facility compliance.
- Develop and manage the site’s budget for EHS initiatives, facility operations, and capital improvements.
Qualifications for Position
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of experience in EHS and facilities management, with at least 3 years in the automotive or EV industry.
- In-depth knowledge of high-voltage electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and EV battery handling.
- Expertise in OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations, with a strong focus on compliance and risk management.
- Experience managing hazardous materials, waste disposal, and compliance reporting in a regulated environment.
- Proven leadership in EHS audits, risk assessments, and corrective action implementation.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience training employees on EHS protocols and emergency response.
- Hands-on experience in facility management, vendor coordination, and building maintenance operations.
- Relevant certifications in EHS disciplines (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) or the ability to obtain them within the first year.
Preferred
- Experience in EV manufacturing, high-voltage vehicle safety, or battery testing environments.
- Familiarity with LEAN facility management principles, energy efficiency initiatives, and sustainability programs.
- Proven track record in managing EHS programs within high-tech R&D or automotive delivery center environments.
Additional Details
- Work Arrangement: Primarily on-site at the Southern California Delivery Hub in Torrance, CA.
- Travel Requirements: Occasional travel for vendor site visits, training programs, and compliance audits.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $120,000-$160,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
