Position Summary
Sony Honda Mobility of America (SHMA) is seeking a proactive, resourceful, and detail-oriented Workplace Specialist to join our team in Torrance, CA. This on-site role is essential to keeping our workplace efficient, welcoming, and aligned with SHMA’s mission of innovation and collaboration.
As the first point of contact for workplace operations, you will take ownership of facilities management, vendor coordination, employee events, and operational processes that ensure a seamless experience for all employees. This position is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in dynamic environments, approaches challenges as opportunities, and takes pride in creating an exceptional workplace experience.
You will collaborate closely with People Ops, IT, and leadership teams to ensure every SHMA employee feels supported, engaged, and empowered to do their best work.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Torrance office, ensuring facilities, supplies, and systems run smoothly.
- Serve as the main point of contact for workplace-related requests, maintenance issues, and operational questions.
- Manage front desk activities, greet visitors, and maintain a professional and welcoming office atmosphere.
- Partner with the People team to plan and execute employee engagement activities, wellness programs, and company events.
- Coordinate vendor services including janitorial, catering, maintenance, security, and building management.
- Support office logistics such as seating assignments, space planning, and office reconfigurations as needed.
- Maintain inventory of office supplies, snacks, and marketing materials, ensuring timely ordering and restocking.
- Collaborate with IT and People Ops to prepare workstations, welcome kits, and onboarding experiences for new hires.
- Contribute to workplace safety initiatives and emergency preparedness programs.
- Track budgets, invoices, and vendor payments related to workplace operations.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, organization, and employee experience.
Required Qualifications for Position
- 5+ years of experience in workplace operations, facilities management, or office coordination, ideally within a people-first or startup environment.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, anticipate needs, and solve problems effectively.
- Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills with excellent follow-through.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
- Experience collaborating with People Ops, IT, and leadership teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and workplace management tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-first mindset focused on creating a positive and inclusive environment.
- A proactive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications for Position
- Experience supporting or scaling workplace operations in high-growth or startup environments.
- Background in event planning, employee engagement, or internal communications.
- Familiarity with vendor management systems, space planning tools, or hybrid work technologies.
- Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operations.
Additional Details
- Work Arrangement: Full-time, on-site position in Torrance, CA, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for events or special projects.
- Travel Requirements: Minimal, though occasional travel to SHMA’s Culver City headquarters or local events may occur.
- Visa Sponsorship: Not available for this position.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $85,000-$95,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
