Artificial Intelligence Intern - Master's or PhD 

United States, San Mateo: this role must be completed in a hybrid capacity out of the SIE-PlayStation San Mateo, CA office. 

About the Team: 

Our team, the Game Language Models (GameLM) team, is a part of the Future Technology Group within Sony Interactive Entertainment-PlayStation. We focus on applying foundational models to innovate in game development and player interaction. Our work is at the cutting edge of AI in gaming, pushing boundaries in areas like autonomous agent behavior, generative AI, and machine learning for creating more interactive, immersive game experiences. By tackling these challenges, we aim to deliver both short-term and long-term solutions for PlayStation Studios, Console Platform groups, and future cloud gaming platforms.

What You’ll Be Doing: 

  • Research and develop state-of-the-art machine learning and AI frameworks for game development.
  • Apply insights from relevant academic research into game development.
  • Contribute to research publications and innovation in gaming.
  • Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept technology leveraging foundational models.
  • Utilize communication skills to effectively convey technical topics to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address real-world AI challenges.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Currently pursuing a PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related field, with an expected graduation by Spring 2026.
  • Expertise in foundational model research, including handling and analyzing large-scale data and communicating complex quantitative findings.
  • Proficiency in deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Experience with large-scale data handling and analysis.
  • Ambitious, proactive, and a clear communicator.
  • Preferred: publications or experience in generative AI or autonomous agents.

Eligibility:

  • Able to work during one of the following periods: May 19th - August 8th or June 16th - September 5th.

  • Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.

  • Open to students who are U.S. citizens or international students with an F-1 visa.

  • Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. 

 

Intern Pay Range

$54 - $57.75 USD
