UX Designer - Partner Platform (Permanent), London, UK
Department overview:

The PlayStation Partners Platform is a suite of digital tools that enable game creators to build their games for PlayStation consoles, and publish them to the PlayStation digital store and discs. Through the platform, PlayStation helps creators to publish games to the highest standards, create digital store content, access developer support, and track metrics on store sales and engagement

Our department’s mission is to make PlayStation the best place for game creators to publish their games. We do this by working closely with game makers to understand their needs, by continually improving the design, operation and performance of the Partners digital platform and by helping our organisation get ever better at design craft and user-centricity.

Role overview:

As a member of the Partners UX Design team, your work will shape the future of the PlayStation Partners platform, and be used by thousands of game developers and publishers the world over.

We're a team of professional designers, writers and researchers all working to make the PlayStation Partners Platform the most welcoming, streamlined, intuitive and well-supported place to publish games; one that fits seamlessly with how game creators work, and makes a clear difference in helping their games succeed on PlayStation.

In this role, you’ll be embedded in a cross-functional product development team delivering better tools and experiences for game developers. As a key UX professional in that team, you’ll work to understand user needs, deliver exceptional designs, collaborate with developers on product delivery, and advocate for user-centricity amongst product managers and stakeholders

This is a permanent role, focused on UX design for enterprise tools, service design, organisational design strategy and daily collaboration with teams

This is a hybrid location role. Our team typically works at home 3-4 days per week, and in our central London office (near Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street stations), 1-2 days per week.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working embedded in a cross-disciplinary product team, on both small enhancements and big leaps forward for the PS Partners platform. Your initial focus will be on improving experiences for game developers who build games for PlayStation consoles
  • Crafting exceptional design solutions, from early conceptual stages through to product releases and updates. You’ll be comfortable working in a transparent, collaborative fashion, through sketches, user flows, journey maps and Figma prototypes
  • Working closely with developers to rapidly iterate design solutions and bring the best designs into production, balancing technical feasibility and product quality
  • Advocating for user-centricity with product managers, helping them plan design activities and always finding ways to inspire the team by pushing for better experiences and showing what great design looks like
  • Staying inquisitive and imaginative - questioning design briefs, always asking what users need and how an idea benefits them, and speaking up to suggest new and better solutions
  • Working closely with UX researchers to plan, conduct and analyse the results of user discovery interviews, and usability tests. Some previous experience being involved in user research is a plus.
  • Sharing and presenting your work-in-progress designs often with peers and colleagues for critique. Explaining design rationale clearly - such as how your design meets user needs and alternative routes you explored - and inviting input and questions from teammates
  • Supporting (and receiving help from) your UX design colleagues, and working together on bold, UX team-led initiatives to advance how design happens at PlayStation, improving tools, techniques and processes for all our designers
  • Contributing to, and helping maintain central UX team resources such as our design system, user archetypes and service blueprints.

Who we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of commercial experience as an UX/Digital Product Designer, with some experience working on Enterprise /B2B software products
  • Experience having worked through the entire design process from Discovery and product scoping to detailed production and launch
  • Strong core UX design skills, with experience designing IAs, user flows, screen layouts and UI components. Experience working with design systems is a plus
  • Experience mapping user journeys and flows, and clarifying user needs, before diving into detailed design work
  • Comfortable working with sketching, low fidelity mockups and co-creation with others
  • Confidence documenting your design process, iterations and decision rationale clearly
  • A strong familiarity with web design patterns, standards and industry best practices
  • Experience working closely with software product teams - including developers, product managers, user researchers and business stakeholders
  • Experience helping teammates from technical and business backgrounds get more familiar with good design process
  • Good communication skills with the ability to present design work with clarity and champion ideas through low-fidelity sketches and prototypes
  • Experience being involved in user interviews and usability testing is a plus
  • A portfolio or presentation showcasing your work and design process.

Benefits:

  • Discretionary annual bonus opportunity
  • Private medical insurance & Dental scheme
  • Flexible, hybrid location working
  • On-site gym and fitness classes
  • Free barista-made coffee and soft drinks
  • Subsidised café and bar, offering breakfast, lunch and after-work food and drink.
  • Access to cycle garage and showers
  • Free PlayStation games allowance
