As part of our Data Platform team, you will play a key role in building cutting-edge systems that power PlayStation’s data-driven features, delivering impactful insights and enabling seamless, interactive experiences!

The Software Engineers within our Platform Engineering Group design, build, document, and deploy large-scale data platforms that optimize performance and scalability across PlayStation systems. You will work on solving complex data challenges, improving platform capabilities, and ensuring high availability, all while supporting a dynamic, interactive environment for PlayStation users.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about building innovative data platforms that scale to millions of users, collaborating across Engineering and Product teams in an agile environment. You’ll have the opportunity to work with the latest technologies, tools, and processes, helping to drive forward our technical and architectural goals.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full software development lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support

  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions

  • Build and maintain highly available, performant cloud-native data platforms, optimized for cost and scalability

  • Identify performance bottlenecks and proactively implement solutions

  • Contribute to consumer-facing and internal data capabilities—ensuring stability, security, and speed

  • Partner with global teams across multiple time zones to ensure cohesive architecture and development velocity

  • Participate in product roadmap discussions, surfacing areas of technical investment, risk, and opportunity

  • Drive development of data cataloging, analytics enablement, ETL/ELT pipelines, and platform-level ML/AI support

  • Mentor and guide junior team members in engineering best practices and system design

  • Lead incident resolution and participate in rotational on-call support for production systems

  • Author and maintain clear technical documentation and internal wiki pages

  • Present designs and technical findings to internal and cross-functional engineering forums

  • Write robust, well-tested code with an emphasis on maintainability, observability, and performance

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building and scaling distributed systems

  • Deep experience with cloud-based development (AWS required; GCP a plus)

  • Expertise in at least one language: Scala, Java, or Python

  • Proven track record of building data platforms from the ground up, including ingesting and processing structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data (audio, video, images, text files)

  • Strong understanding of event streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, or SQS)

  • Experience with distributed processing frameworks like Apache Spark and/or Apache Flink

  • Solid knowledge of platform observability, deployment pipelines, and operational excellence

  • Ability to conduct technical deep dives across architecture, networking, codebases, and performance issues

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, especially in a globally distributed team

  • Willingness to handle on-call rotations and urgent escalations as needed

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience with Databricks or similar unified data platforms

  • Exposure to ML/AI platforms or pipeline integration for model training and real-time inference

  • Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, and catalog tools

  • Experience building and optimizing real-time activation layers or serving systems

  • Exposure to multi-cloud environments and hybrid cloud architectures

  • Ability to evaluate and introduce innovative technologies to solve scale and performance challenges

Your First 90 Days

  • 30 Days: Develop a solid understanding of the platform’s architecture and tooling. Contribute to feature development and integrate into team processes.

  • 60 Days: Take ownership of a functional area or service. Propose improvements, review designs, and begin collaborating cross-functionally.

  • 90 Days: Drive delivery of key roadmap features. Partner with product and engineering leads to shape technical direction and mentor others on best practices.

In 90 days, you will know the platform in detail and are comfortable tackling large features and delivering them in a timely manner. You would have worked closely with the product and got a deep understanding of the roadmap and began design and development of large end to end solutions.
