Sr. Investigator, Corporate Security
Location: San Diego, CA
You will work cross-functionally within the Corporate Security Team and with partner teams’ safeguard our employees, events, and operations. Your role will involve protecting our users and facilities while supporting global business objectives. You will conduct investigations and enhance our risk intelligence capability, whilst ensuring compliance and supporting continuous improvement.
You will lead a team managing complex investigations and high-level threat management operations globally across Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). This role involves strategic oversight, triage, coordination, and resolution of threats targeting network communities, employees, studios, assets, and brand reputation.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience managing sensitive investigations, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and engaging with external agencies, including law enforcement and intelligence partners. This senior-level role will also ensure compliance, shape policies, refine protocols, and build capabilities, playing a pivotal role in our security assurance program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee complex, high-impact investigations involving workplace threats, harassment, misconduct, and security breaches globally.
- Supervise investigative workflows, case management practices, and reporting standards for the investigation team.
- Develop, refine, and enforce threat management policies, investigative procedures, and incident response strategies to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Provide subject matter expertise and strategic guidance to stakeholders, including Legal, HR, Global Security Operations, Online Safety, and senior leadership.
- Serve as the escalation point for time-sensitive threats, ensuring innovative mitigation, documentation, and executive communication.
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies, intelligence partners, and external stakeholders on subpoenas, intelligence requests, and active threat cases, whilst building strong relationships.
- Utilize advanced OSINT methodologies and investigative platforms to identify threat actors, assess behavioural risk indicators, and produce detailed threat profiles.
- Prepare and deliver executive-level threat assessments, intelligence briefings, and post-incident reviews.
- Conduct risk evaluations for key personnel, studio leadership, events, and locations, supporting both proactive and reactive security planning.
- Monitor global threat trends and evolving TTPs (tactics, techniques, procedures) impacting the gaming industry, corporate targets, and digital platforms.
- Develop global horizon scanning, analysis, and reporting to support recommendations/options to mitigate emerging safety/security risks.
- Mentor and train new team members, fostering professional growth and alignment with team goals.
- Spearhead engaging performance management metrics, trend analysis, and quality assessments.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and integrity when handling sensitive information or personnel-related cases.
- Flexibility to effectively manage and service operational demands supporting a 24/7 capability across the Security Operations Team.
- Support overall corporate security initiatives and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 10+ years of professional leadership experience in threat or intelligence management, corporate investigations, or law enforcement/military operations.
- Four+ years’ experience in complex workplace/corporate security investigations.
- Familiarity with structured professional judgement (SPJ) tools such as WAVR-21, HCR-20
- Experience taking a victim-cantered approach to threat management cases, prioritizing safety and communications throughout the investigation and remediation process.
- Confidence to proactively mitigate vulnerability and threat proportionately.
- Experienced in people management and team leadership.
- Proven ability to manage and lead high-risk, high-profile investigations independently and under pressure.
- Strong understanding of threat assessment models, behavioural analysis, evidence collation/handling & management, and incident triage frameworks.
- Advanced proficiency in OSINT techniques, online investigations, and data correlation tools.
- Exceptional communication skills, with an appreciation of sensitivities and multidimensional perspectives, presenting complex findings to executive audiences clearly and concisely.
- Strategic thinking and risk prioritization competence, especially in ambiguous or crisis situations.
- Extensive knowledge of global threat landscapes, online platform vulnerabilities, and security best practices.
- Experience engaging directly with senior leadership, executives, or high-profile stakeholders.
- Familiarity with security operations platforms (Case Management systems, Intelligence gathering, SharePoint, internal systems – CCTV/Access Control etc.).
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability, ethics, and mission-driven focus.
Desireable Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Intelligence Studies, or a related field.
- ATAP Certified Threat Manager (CTM) or similar certification
- Experience managing threat operations in corporate, gaming, intelligence, or government sectors.
- Relevant Security/Investigation Accreditation
- Experience coordinating across global business units and multilingual/multicultural environments
- Experience working on or with Trust & Safety or Content Moderation teams

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$127,500 - $191,300 USD
