Our Team:

The Commerce, Account, & Partner Engineering (CAPE) Technical Operations team is dedicated to maintaining an always-available platform while enabling seamless delivery of delightful experiences for PlayStation players, partners, and operators. As a horizontal organization, we provide operations and tooling support for backend services across account management, authentication, commerce, and third-party partner integrations on the PlayStation Network.

Within CAPE TechOps, the Notifications team is responsible for developing and maintaining backend services that power transactional notifications — including email, SMS, mobile app, and console messages. We build scalable, high-performance, and secure systems that support both customer-facing interactions and internal stakeholders. Our tools and services help ensure the effective operation, security, and reliability of the broader PlayStation Network ecosystem.

We are seeking a Software Engineer II to join our team of innovative engineers focused on services, internal tools, and service sustainability. In this role, you will design and implement interactive web-based services, contribute to the development and maintenance of Java code, and support core components that power the PlayStation Network.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of the development team.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of functional or business requirements.
  • Participate in code review.
  • Prepare and execute unit tests.
  • Apply advanced technical knowledge to maintain a technology area (e.g. Java).
  • May perform solution design.
  • Implement end user or enterprise infrastructure or services prepared by more senior technologist.
  • Perform work assigned by others.
  • Provide time / resource estimates for assigned tasks.
  • Sustain services with technologies upgrades (e.g. Terraform, Kubernetes, Tomcat, Java, CICD)

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience with Java
  • Experience with Reactive programming
  • Development experience using Java, XML/XSL, JSON
  • Experience developing applications on Unix/Linux platforms
  • Experience with servlet containers (e.g., Tomcat), JAXRS, Spring, and related technologies
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and test-driven development processes preferred
  • Experience using source control (esp. Git) and bug tracking systems in a team environment
  • Experience in object-oriented analysis and design
  • Experience developing web services using JSON and XML.
  • Experience building software solutions on AWS cloud and utilizing AWS products and services (e.g., EKS, ALB, AWS Kinesis, DynamoDB)
  • Operational experience troubleshooting services and platforms, including issues with observability, performance, availability, reliability, and scalability.

Nice to have:

  • Python 3 and at least one of the Python web frameworks such as Django, Bottle or Flask
  • Fundamental knowledge or experience of AI/ML (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning, techniques for cleaning and preparing data for analysis, machine learning models evaluation, neural networks, TensorFlow, PyTorch)

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$150,100 - $225,100 USD
