Financial Analyst
San Mateo, CA (Hybrid) or West Coast (Remote)
Business Planning & Operations (BP&O) is seeking a Financial Analyst to support the Legal corporate function. You will work with Legal leadership and Finance to help plan, forecast, and analyze spend across outside counsel, compliance initiatives, IP protection, and department operations. You will assist in building models, tracking performance, and preparing reports that support decision-making and ensure alignment with corporate policies. This role reports to the BP&O Finance Manager and collaborates with our Legal Corporate Function.
Responsibilities:
- Support monthly close activities for Legal Finance (accruals, reclasses, and variance analysis) and help prepare performance summaries for leadership.
- Assist in developing and maintaining forecast and budget models for outside counsel, eDiscovery, compliance programs, and IP enforcement.
- Track commitments and actuals; partner with Legal Operations and Procurement to manage POs/SOWs, rate cards, and spend controls.
- Contribute to analyses for major initiatives (e.g., litigation strategy, compliance rollouts) and help identify cost optimization opportunities.
- Help improve reporting to highlight trends, risks, and opportunities; assist with automating recurring reports.
- Participate in scenario planning and sensitivity analyses to quantify the financial impact of regulatory changes and portfolio decisions.
- Support intercompany and cost-center recharges and ensure policy-compliant allocations across regions and entities.
- Assist in preparing materials for monthly reviews, budget reviews, and ad hoc leadership requests.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; advanced credentials (MBA, CPA, CFA) are a plus.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or legal operations finance (in-house or professional services).
- Proficiency with Excel (advanced formulas, modeling); knowledge of Workday Adaptive EPM a plus.
- Strong understanding of legal operations finance, including outside counsel management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate effectively with non-finance stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, confidentiality, and willingness to learn; comfortable working in a dynamic environment.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$110,500 - $165,700 USD
