Senior Product Comms Manager

San Mateo, California (Hybrid - 1 day a week)

About the team 

This role sits within the Product Comms team, part of the Platform Data & Strategy (PDS) department at Sony Interactive Entertainment. 
 
Our goal is to maximize the impact of launch and in-life performance of SIE’s products and services through timely, relevant, compelling and detailed communications. We operate as a strategic partner to product and business stakeholders, shaping how products are positioned and understood internally, and influencing how they are taken to market with the highest impact. 
 
As the Product Comms remit continues to increase, as must our influence and availability, so we’re looking to grow our on-the-ground presence in the US. This is an exciting time to join the team as it expands further and plays a leading role in the future of PlayStation! 

About the role 

This role will be accountable for assigned Product Comms projects from inception to completion, take ownership of improving our Project Management processes, and take lead delivering comms locally in the US. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Product Comms; you will be trusted to make judgement calls on areas like project scope, strategic approach and stakeholder engagement, balancing local needs with global priorities.  

What you will do 

  • Project Lead multiple complex, cross-functional projects with high senior visibility  
  • Define, standardize and evolve the Product Comms project management approach to be used across all projects; support others in applying it consistently; improve it based on team experiences; project manage the projects you are assigned to lead. 
  • Act as the senior, on-the-ground representative for Product comms in the US, helping shape how the function engages and partners with local business and product members, and taking lead on local product demo and event delivery 
  • Build stronger connections: facilitate engagement with product, PMO, and business teams across the US to raise the profile and influence of Product Comms. 

What we’re looking for 

We’re looking for an experienced project manager and expert communicator, who’s excited by the opportunity to branch out to a varied role of strategy, hands-on delivery, and engaging members across SIE in our mission. We need a self-starter who thrives on building relationships proactively, and a committed team player; although you’ll be the team’s first US member, this gives you a unique opportunity to represent Product Comms locally in this vital region while remaining deeply connected to your UK teammates.  

Must have: 

  • 5+ years’ project/program management experience, and deep understanding of different methodologies and their strengths/limitations. 
  • Expert-level proficiency with Project Management tools (e.g. Wrike, Asana, MS Project), JIRA and MS Excel. 
  • Technically minded, and eager to learn new technologies deeply (hardware and software). 
  • Strong systems-thinking ability, with experience of process optimization and a track record of defining/improving process at scale. 
  • Comfort presenting with passion to large groups of varied senior members, in person. 
  • Interest and passion for video gaming! 
  • Travel to other California locations (SD, LA) multiple times a year as required, and to the UK minimum 2 times annually.

  • The rest of the team is UK based, so working with hours closer aligned to the UK across 2-3 days of the week is preferred. 
  • The following experience would be desirable (but please don’t feel it’s essential to tick every box in this list): 
  • Knowledge of product (hardware/software) development lifecycles and GTM processes. 
  • Experience of working with business operations or shaping how products get taken to market. 
  • Experience in a creative function, including design, communications, PR/Marketing. 
  • Games industry experience.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$161,100 - $241,700 USD
