We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test II (SDET II) to join our Video Codec Quality Engineering team, responsible for validating the software and hardware components of the PlayStation SDK's video codec stack. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks and CI pipelines that ensure the reliability, performance, and correctness of codec technologies across PlayStation platforms. You'll work closely with codec developers and QE peers to catch regressions early, expand automated coverage, and help ship high-quality video encoding/decoding software and hardware to millions of PlayStation users.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for PlayStation SDK video codec software and hardware components
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins to support continuous testing, nightly regression runs, and release validation
  • Develop and extend API-level test automation to validate codec SDK interfaces, functionality, and performance
  • Write robust, maintainable test code in C++ and Python to cover functional, regression, performance, and stress testing scenarios
  • Investigate test failures, triage bugs, and work with development teams to drive issues to resolution
  • Collaborate with codec developer teams to understand new features and translate requirements into test plans and automated coverage
  • Monitor test results and CI dashboards, proactively flagging quality risks and coverage gaps
  • Contribute to test infrastructure improvements, including tooling, reporting, and scalability of the automation framework
  • Document test plans, procedures, and known issues to support team knowledge sharing

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins
  • 3+ years of experience in software development in test, QA automation, or a related engineering role
  • Strong hands-on coding experience in C++ and Python
  • Experience designing and implementing API test automation frameworks
  • Solid understanding of software testing methodologies (functional, regression, integration, performance)
  • Ability to debug complex issues across software and hardware layers
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working cross-functionally with development teams

Nice to Have:

  • Experience testing or working with video codec technologies (e.g., H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1)
  • Familiarity with AI agents or applying AI/LLM-based tools to test automation and workflows
  • Experience with GTest or similar C++ test frameworks (e.g., Catch2, Google Mock)
  • Experience testing embedded systems, SDKs, or console/hardware platforms
  • Familiarity with performance benchmarking and profiling tools
