Manager, Business & Legal Affairs

Asia & Middle East, Korea, Seoul

As a Manager of Business & Legal Affairs, you will be mainly responsible for reviewing all contracts relating to the business operations, including artist contracts, license-in deals, license-out deals, distribution deals, live events and including service agreements. You will also advise on intellectual property right issues and ensure compliance with contractual and legal obligations in Korea.

What you'll do:

  • Strategic legal and commercial advice, negotiations and reviewing in relation to various transactions and activities, including: Artist deals (recording, licensing and distribution), commercial investments, joint ventures, distribution, brand partnerships, content acquisition, licensing and production, talent management and endorsements, sponsorship, e-commerce, merchandise, live events, service and supplier engagements, competitions, campaigns, insurance,  operations and other business activities;
  • Risk management and compliance advice on various laws and regulations (including copyright, trademarks, passing off, defamation, privacy, cyber security, spam, competition and consumer laws, contractual commitments, company assets and policies).
  • Pre-publication advice on marketing materials, music videos, artworks, press releases, competitions and marketing campaigns.
  • Dispute resolution: enforcement of intellectual property rights.
  • Education and knowledge management: maintaining and updating precedents, policies and procedures and training staff.
  • Preparing, proactive reviewing, monitoring business affairs policies and guidelines (e.g., Business Practices, etc.), suggesting legal advice or legal action, and implementing law-compliance reporting and statutory filings.
  • Supervising litigations - hiring and managing external counsel, etc.
 

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent with min. 5+ years Post-Qualified Experience (PQE) with law firm or with in-house legal duty (ideally in a media/entertainment business) in Korea
  • Knowledge and experience in music business, copyright, intellectual property and/or knowledge of live events/entertainment business.
  • Qualified lawyer is in Korea/US(markets can be differ)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written. Fluent in Korean and English.
  • Strong attention to details and time management skills
  • Receptive and versatile to fast-changing business models
  • Ability to work autonomously with high-pressure, “roll-up-the-sleeves” attitude, hands-on and as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently, but also fully communicate with the supervisor, and other internal/external stakeholders
  • Good level of legal research skills as well as skills with Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Passion for the music entertainment business
  • A team player
  • Ability to work harmoniously with the teams from various culture background
  • Ability to work with the teams remotely
