Senior Manager – Royalty Accounting
The music industry is shifting from a static, artist royalty payment structure to a collaborative, profit sharing relationship with creative partners. The Joint Venture team is central in supporting the Sony Music Label teams by reporting the results of those collaborative partnerships to the creative partners. As a member of the JV team, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for performing accounting and analysis functions integral to financial statement reporting, management reporting and general accounting in compliance with the contract and accounting standards.
What you'll do:
- Lead the preparation of financial statements: Oversee the preparation of financial statements and statements of accounts in accordance with each deal’s contract. Collaborate with SME Label management and venture partners to ensure alignment.
- Contract management and communication: Take a leadership role in reviewing contracts, addressing issues, summarizing key points, and effectively communicating with all affected SME departments. Ensure compliance with contract terms and accurate accounting
- Strategic analysis and collaboration: Analyze monthly results for assigned joint ventures, collaborating with SME departments to understand variances. Reconcile subsystems to the general ledger, analyze accounts, and initiate strategic discussions with senior management.
- Lead coordination efforts with Business Affairs, A&R Administration, outside partners, their attorneys, representatives, and auditors to address issues, review statements, and assess the status of deals as required.
- Take a proactive role in providing support for audits of assigned joint venture financial statements with external auditors, including audits by venture partners’ auditors.
- Participate in ad hoc special projects and analyses for senior management.
Who you are:
- CA / CPA or equivalent, with minimum of 5-7 years of business experience, preferably in a Big 4 accounting firm.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
- Proven experience in leading and managing teams, showcasing leadership skills.
- Willing to work in US shift (4.30pm – 1.30am).
- Open to hybrid work arrangement with 2 days in a month from office.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with all levels of management.
- Disciplined self-starter with can-do attitude; proactive, resourceful, detail oriented and strong follow-through skills.
