
General Manager, West Africa
To be a strategic and entrepreneurial business leader for the West African operation, managing senior relationships internally and externally. You must be highly proactive in managing the local artist relationships and a hands-on role in the management of local artist roster. You will develop and manage the Marketing, Artist and Repertoire strategy across all areas including P&L responsibility and allocation the necessary resources available to manage the business plan and grow market share. You will drive planning in collaboration with the Managing Director and SMEA Leadership Team and ensure everything we do is founded on audience insight, creativity, innovation and strong collaborative relationships with internal teams, the Artist and their management. You will build and take ultimate accountability for performance, delivery and development of a local team
What you'll do:
- Develop and manage the label strategy across all areas including P&L responsibility and allocate the necessary resources available to manage business plan and grow market share.
- Provide guidance and input with respect to A&R, music/video production budgets, artist and artist manager relationship management to frontline label teams based on experience and reputation
- Accountable for responding quickly and effectively to changes in both the internal and external market environment to safeguard SME repertoire and total marketing performance expectations
- Forecasting revenue for artist projects, developing a priority structure on the release schedule and which acts are key breakthroughs for the Label.
- Work with international contacts on the strategy for campaigns to break international artists, having a thorough understanding of the global market and impact on other repertoire owners.
- Explore opportunities to expand the artist’s reach both domestically and internationally, including identifying new markets, promotional strategies, and audience engagement techniques.
- Liaise with management, artists and other territories to ensure campaigns roll out effectively for local and international priority artists.
- Use market and industry knowledge to develop and manage the overall integrated strategy to maximize development and sales potential of all artists under the label, including traditional, online, artist management and broader rights areas
- Represent Sony Music Entertainment West Africa at senior level in meetings across the business and at industry events, deputize for the Managing Director as appropriate.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of all artist-related projects, using data and analytics to track sales, streams, and overall success. Regularly report on progress and suggest adjustments to strategy when necessary
- As a member of the local leadership team, have full understanding of company turnover and BP targets and work as a team to meet these goals.
- Plan and organize the work required to achieve company objectives and budget, accordingly, ensuring the most effective marketing spend whilst driving focus on reaching promotional, online, chart and sales targets for each artist.
- Lead and motivate a multidisciplinary team, ensuring alignment across marketing, artist relations and repertoire functions. Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to team members to enhance performance, creativity, and career growth. Regularly assess team productivity and offer solutions for optimization.
- Work alongside Commercial and Services functions to ensure tools represent the artist, suit market needs, support and strengthen retail strategies and relationships with partners.

Who you are:
- Solid marketing and promotion experience gained within media and entertainment industry (TV, Music, Media, Youth Culture, Fashion or Brands with a track record of successful project management and artist development.
- Significant campaign experience for domestic artists
- Strong leadership and organizational abilities, with the capability to lead and inspire a team.
- Strong strategic thinking abilities, with the capability to develop and implement effective plans.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously, while maintaining a keen eye for detail
- Knowledge of budgeting, financial management, business planning and resource allocation.
- Data-driven, with the ability to analyze trends and optimize processes for better efficiency.
- Understanding of market forces and how to best position artists towards relevant markets
- Proven experience of delivering creative and cost effective integrated traditional and online strategy through application of audience insight
- Demonstrated complex problem solving and decision making and the organizational skills to manage and prioritize varied workload
- Demonstrated ability to quickly build credible working relationships at all levels of the company
