Director, Marketing and Operations - Masterworks Live

Primary Purpose of the Role

 

Sony Music’s Masterworks Live division is seeking to appoint an executive to support the delivery and growth of the Company’s live entertainment business and stature in the region. Whilst structured within the Sony Music Australia offices in Sydney/Melbourne, the role will also have remit to the global Masterworks Live team.

 

This role will be the regional marketing, operations, implementation and event management executive for Masterworks Live, working on the existing business in support of the group’s promoters as well as supporting new businesses acquisition and delivery as the event portfolio expands. Motivated by delivering quality events and in support of the bottom line, the successful candidate will have a proven track-record of project and operations management, working to timelines and budget, and multi-tasking across the many aspects of live events, with a particular focus on marketing campaigns and all factors that drive revenue.  The candidate will provide an integral link between promoter and other Sony Music teams including Marketing, PR, Legal and Finance.  Additionally, the candidate must bring outstanding stakeholder relationship capabilities and be skilled in building and developing new relationships.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Marketing, operations, implementation and event management for Masterworks Live activities in the territory for existing and new IP properties. 
  • Regular communication and support of the live events companies.
  • Support the evaluation and management of new events and experiences, including with market and customer insights. 
  • Coordination between Sony Music Australia, Masterworks Live management and Masterworks Live promoter companies.
  • Management of the support to Masterworks Live from the various Sony Music Australia teams.
  • Internal and external stakeholder relationship management excellence.

 

What you’ll Do

 

Operational Delivery

 

  • Operations, implementation and event management services for existing and new events in Australia, with scope of role depending on each event’s arrangements. 
  • Managing all stakeholder relationships effectively, including venues, media and tourism partners, sponsors, ticketing and government.
  • Ensuring delivery of obligations under venue, sponsor and other event contracts, both by Masterworks Live and its event partners.
  • Implement events in accordance with overall event project timelines and budgets, and ensure delivery completed to expectations and budget.
  • Updating Masterworks Live leadership in NYC/London as required.
  • Work across multiple world time-zones with Sony promoters.
  • Regularly visit venues and their teams.
  • Attend and follow-up on all project Senior Management Team meetings with venues.
  • Attend and follow-up on all project Marketing team meetings with Sony promoters and venues.
  • Actively support the management and delivery of all marketing and communication plans.
  • Procure and manage the delivery of third party suppliers and consultants engaged for each live events, including marketing, promotion, catering, logistics, security, traffic management crowd control, safety etc).
  • Work closely with Sony Music teams including Marketing, PR, Legal and Finance in coordinating the provision of their services to the events.
  • Assist with the management, at a local level, of the relationship with ticketing companies.
  • Support the maximization of all commercial rights exploitation and event profitability.
  • Support risk management and insurance activities
  • Ensure all ongoing and post event reporting is completed and circulated in a timely fashion.

 

Marketing and Promotion 

 

  • Support the development of marketing plans and launch strategies.
  • Actively engage in the marketing, PR and communications plans, including implementing via content creator and influencer initiatives, and media buying.
  • Actively engage with and coordinate all requirements of Press, Guests and opening nights.
  • Monitor sales against the marketing plan and propose plan adjustments as necessary.
  • Secure marketing and promotional support from venue, ticketing agency and other partners.

 

Business Development

 

  • Support the expansion of both existing and new event formats of live entertainment in the region.
  • Explore, manage and service sponsorship opportunities of the group’s live entertainment activities.

 

Financial Management

 

  • Managing various aspects of budgeting in support of Sony promoters, Masterworks Live and the Sony Music Australia Finance team.
  • Liaising with Masterworks Live, Sony promoters, Sony Production and Sony Music Australia financial teams. 
  • Supporting the budgeting process for new events.

 

 

Who You Are

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience in the events industry.
  • Strong understanding of event and operations management and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of marketing strategy and planning and its implementation in an events/entertainment context.  
  • You are passionate about live events, music and technology.
  • You are an excellent team player with strong inter-personnel skills with the ability to influence and work collaboratively across departments.
  • You have proven project management experience with the ability to coordinate successfully the planning and delivery of diverse projects involving multiple stakeholders and complex partners.
  • You have good verbal and written skills, able to present ideas clearly and thoroughly to stakeholder audiences.
  • Proactive self-starter with agility to work independently and deliver excellent outcomes.
  • You are willing to work out of hours, weekends when events are in operation and are able to travel.
  • Highly responsive and service-oriented attitude.
