Vice President, Marketing

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced VP of Marketing to join Sony Music Australia. As VP of Marketing, you will be responsible for creating and executing innovative marketing initiatives to elevate our artists, brands, increase global engagement and grow revenue across our diverse portfolio. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a passion for music and entertainment, a deep understanding of audience engagement, and a proven track record of delivering impactful campaigns. This is an executive leadership role that demands strong strategic thinking, creativity, and the ability to inspire and manage cross-functional teams in a rapidly evolving industry.

What you'll do:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead a diverse team of professionals, fostering an environment of creativity, innovation, and high performance.
  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing and creative strategies to drive artist visibility, fan engagement, and sales growth.
  • Lead a team of marketers, digital strategists, and other departments to deliver high-impact marketing campaigns that reach target audiences and drive revenue.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to set overarching goals, ensuring that marketing and creative efforts are fully aligned with business objectives.
  • Provide forward-thinking insights and creative solutions that enhance the Sony's reputation in a competitive music landscape.
  • Drive audience growth, fan engagement, and brand awareness through innovative marketing tactics across multiple channels including digital, social media, print, and events.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and consumer behaviour to provide actionable insights and maintain a competitive edge.

Creative Management:

  • Shape and evolve the creative voice of our label, our artists and our businesses ensuring consistency across all marketing channels and platforms.
  • Lead the creative vision for all artist campaigns, including album releases, music videos, live performances, branding, and promotional materials.
  • Oversee the creation of high-impact brand campaigns, including digital, print, social media, and experiential marketing efforts.
  • Utilise cutting-edge technology, tools, and platforms to engage with audiences across digital channels and build a robust online presence.
  • Lead the creation of innovative Artist campaigns that resonate with global audiences, including fans, influencers, and partners.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of marketing professionals, creative producers’ designers, and social media managers to foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Set clear objectives, performance standards, and deliverables for the marketing and creative team, and ensure timely execution of all campaigns.
  • Establish KPIs and oversee the performance management of the team, ensuring measurable outcomes for team initiatives.
  • Establish great relationships with heads of marketing from around the world and communicate to them regularly on both local and international artist campaigns 

Campaign Execution & Performance:

  • Oversee the conceptualisation, development, and execution of multi-channel marketing campaigns for releases and other artist-related initiatives. Plus, for our businesses that include Talent management, Masterworks live and Ceremony of Roses.
  • Drive the development of new customer acquisition, engagement, and retention strategies, focused on maximising ROI.
  • Leverage data and analytics to monitor marketing campaign effectiveness, optimise performance, and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of industry trends, consumer behaviour, and competitor activities to inform decision-making.
  • Analyse campaign performance metrics to assess effectiveness and optimise future efforts for maximum ROI (including consumption, 1st party data, d2c and audience growth)

Cross-Department Collaboration:

  • Lead cross-functional teams, including marketing, PR, creative, digital, and A&R, ensuring effective collaboration and execution of initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and inclusivity across all departments, empowering team members to contribute their unique perspectives and ideas.

Innovation & Trendspotting:

  • Stay ahead of emerging trends in digital media, technology, and consumer behaviour to keep the label at the forefront of the industry.
  • Leverage new platforms, technologies, and trends to create innovative marketing opportunities for the label, artists and commercial entities.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the marketing and creative budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources while maintaining a high level of creative output.
  • Drive ROI on marketing spend, using analytics to measure and optimize campaign effectiveness.
  • Negotiate with vendors and third-party partners to maximise value and return on marketing investments.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in marketing and creative strategy, preferably within the music, entertainment, or media industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale marketing campaigns for major artists, albums, and events.
  • Strong understanding of branding, consumer behaviour, and global market dynamics across the entertainment sector.
  • Expertise in digital marketing, data analysis, and using emerging technologies to drive consumer and fan engagement.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior executives and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative, and constantly evolving environment.
  • Experience in building and managing multi-channel marketing strategies with a strong focus on ROI.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide a team of diverse creatives and marketers.
  • Expertise in digital marketing, brand building, social media strategy, content creation, and fan engagement.
  • In-depth knowledge of current music industry trends, social media platforms, and marketing technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and act on data to optimize marketing effectiveness.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and executives.
