Insight & Analytics Intern

Europe, United Kingdom, London

Here at Sony Music Entertainment, we are shaping what’s next in a way that creates impact. Forging powerful new ideas at the heart of music, technology, and culture that entertain and move people.  This is your opportunity. Part of a global community, united by individual passion, rising to that challenge every day. Adapting at pace and supporting one another, inspired to influence the future. For the benefit of you, our people; our creators, our business, and wider society too. This is your chance to shape your impact on Sony Music and beyond.

The Insight & Analytics department at Sony Music is focused on understanding audiences and trends through a mixture of primary research methodologies, and analysis of social and partner data. Our goal is to make Sony Music the most audience-centric, data-informed music company. Insight & Analytics is part of Sony Music UK’s Audience Development function, sitting within a central UK creative department that works across all of Sony’s labels called 4th Floor Creative.

Being a central team, this is a brilliant opportunity to work across a huge breadth of different artist projects whilst learning about and utilising different research methodologies and digital tools to help teams across the business appreciate more about our artists’ current fans and their potential future fans. You will be an integral part of the team helping coordinate and support the Insight & Analytics team with day-to-day requests, whether that be directly supporting our marketing teams on artist campaigns or working on centralised strategic projects. Most of your time will be spent supporting on artist-based work, analysing and sharing what’s interesting about their audiences and showcasing how they engage with artists across social media platforms. A good literacy of the music landscape and knowledge of social media channels will go far in this role!

What you'll do:

  • Respond to requests from labels for artist audience profiles leveraging our in-house data sources.
  • Create presentations and trend reports to help convey findings and recommendations to the business.
  • Support with the management and analysis of tasks on our youth culture audience panel.
  • Use social media analytics tools to illustrate how to engage our artists audiences across short form video and social media platforms.
  • Keep abreast of wider social media, short form video and streaming trends.
  • Be accountable for the delivery, maintenance, and development of several weekly reports.
  • Manage the team’s reports and outputs, uploading them to our online portal.
  • Support the team with a wide variety of ad hoc projects and label workshops.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider 4th Floor Creative teams.
  • Opportunity to learn SQL, Tableau and Alteryx as well as the various primary research approaches.

Who you are:

  • This role would be a great opportunity for anyone looking to rapidly develop their research, insight, analysis and storytelling skills in a stimulating, fast paced and always-changing industry.
  • Prior experience of manipulating basic data in Excel and PowerPoint is essential as this will be a major area of support required.
  • You may have had experience of using statistical package such as SPSS, SAS, eViews.
  • Detail orientated – findings need to be precise and accurately reflect the data.
  • Problem solving mentality and an inquiring, diagnostic mind – not all our questions come with ready-made solutions, so you need to be able to think problems through.
  • Great communicator – you will need to be able to clearly communicate findings to colleagues.
  • Personable, with a passion for understanding people and music, culture (“high” and “low”) and the dynamics of social media and the online landscape.
  • Good understanding of the music streaming landscape, music economics and emerging social media platforms.
  • A keen eye for design and presentation.
  • A love of music is essential! We’re lucky enough to work across all the labels at Sony so a varied taste and appetite for immersing in different genres and scenes is essential.

What we give you:

  • You join a vibrant global community with the opportunity to channel your passion every day
  • A modern office environment designed for you, empowering you to bring your best
  • Investment in your professional growth and development such as focused workshops and a dedicated mentor, enabling you to thrive in our vibrant community
  • The space to accelerate progress, positively disrupt and create what happens next
  • We give you the platform to champion positive change, with the opportunity to contribute to our social impact, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives
  • We provide an excellent range of benefits like private medical cover, a generous pension scheme, life assurance, income protection, plus loads of music industry perks. There’s also time off over winter break
