Job Description
The Asset Workflow Supervisor (Principal Engineer) is responsible for all aspects of our adoption efforts related to asset sharing to impact the way we work in an aspirational and transformative way. In this role, you will work with studio leadership to analyze our production and business processes as well as across Sony Media and Entertainment divisions and can collaborate with partner studios. In addition to coordinating externally developed solutions, the Asset Workflow Supervisor will own our internal development lifecycle to design, implement, train, integrate, and deploy solutions to different departments at Imageworks. Asset Workflow Supervisor will collaborate with Business Leaders, Technology Leaders, Heads of department, Creative Supervisors and production teams to identify business problems.
What You'll Do:
- Craft, orchestrate and realize an Asset Workflow vision, mission, strategy and implementation schedule across multi-functional teams.
- Collaborate with key artistic studio leadership teams to understand and impact artist workflows.
- Contribute to innovative research, including algorithm and method development, specifically applicable to the animation and VFX industry.
- Explore solutions, connect with experts and conduct technical reviews of existing methods and emerging approaches from academia and industry. Provide expert opinions on 3rd party vs open source vs. building across the industries with a critical and evaluative eye.
- Develop in-house Sony standards for Asset creation and sharing.
- Provide guidance and implementation on USD pipelines.
- Deep experience with asset management and asset sharing and conversion techniques across studio and game platforms and environments.
- Participate with Sony representatives on the Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD).
- Gather information from respective divisions of Sony on their adoption or potential use of USD.
- Establish and maintain connections with Sony Vendors/partners - e.g. NVIDIA, EPIC, PIXAR.
- Establish and maintain connections with broader industry VFX/Animation/Gaming partners - e.g. ILM, Wētā FX.
- Execute on broader Sony Transmedia project
- Develop processes/standards for sharing assets between studios
- Manage and establish test cases to spearhead and encourage studio partnerships
What you bring:
- Minimum 15+ years of experience with VFX/Animation and/or Gaming Pipeline Development
- Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Experience with OpenUSD, MaterialX and other open-source asset standards.
- Experience with DCC/Game Engine including - Maya, Autodesk, Unreal, Unity, Side FX Houdini.
- Experience with developing pipeline tools.
- Experience with Python and PyQt/PySide.
- Experience with C++.
- Experience with gLTF.
- Proficiency in Linux and Windows environments.

- Outstanding communication and strategic leadership abilities, complemented by a strong sense of empathy and diplomacy.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $150,000 - $200,000/yr CAD. Benefits are per company policy: which include healthcare, tuition reimbursement, RRSP's, Sick and Vacation leave, standard increases as applicable. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
