THE ROLE
To assist the MENA team in implementing Sotheby’s strategic business plans in the UAE, with a primary focus on coordinating events, client engagement, and operational support in Abu Dhabi. This role will act as a liaison between internal teams, clients, and local partners, ensuring a smooth execution of events and fostering connections within the Abu Dhabi art and cultural community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Event Coordination & Market Engagement:
- Coordinate with various internal teams, including Client Development, Marketing, Press and Logistics, to ensure seamless execution of events.
- Report regularly to the Dubai office, ensuring streamlined communication regarding all events and activities in Abu Dhabi.
- Organize and oversee strategic client engagement activities, including Sotheby’s exhibitions, dinners, educational programs, and special events in Abu Dhabi.
- Flexible with timings as the role will require to work at times in the evenings and weekends during events and sales
- Conduct site visits to venues such as Manarat Al Saadiyat to assess event potential and facilitate smooth operations.
- Build and maintain relationships with local suppliers, caterers, and vendors to ensure the highest quality of event execution.
- Coordinate with external partners, including PR agencies, to enhance visibility and audience engagement for Sotheby’s events.
- Track event budgets and ensure costs are managed efficiently, reporting any discrepancies to senior management.
- Provide on-the-ground support during events, managing logistics, and addressing any immediate issues that arise.
- Ensure that all events are aligned with Sotheby’s brand and objectives
Client Management & Business Development:
- Assist with any Management and Specialist visits to Abu Dhabi, co-ordinate and facilitate relevant local introductions and engagements with key stakeholders.
- Provide insights on the local market, advising senior management on trends, opportunities, and challenges to align the Abu Dhabi office’s objectives with Sotheby’s broader strategy.
- Serve as a key local contact for Sotheby’s in Abu Dhabi, particularly for Arabic-speaking clients.
- Identify and engage new prospective clients in Abu Dhabi to invite to Sotheby’s events and exhibitions.
- Act as a first point of contact/ client liaison to ensure seamless client service and introduce new prospects to the Sotheby’s network.
- Actively seek and initiate conversations about valuation opportunities to expand the auction roster and private sales potential in Abu Dhabi.
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 3 years of experience in event coordination or project management.
- Strong knowledge of the Abu Dhabi art and cultural scene.
- Fluent in Arabic and English.
- Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently and manage relationships effectively.
- Excellent presentation skills
- Prior experience in retail or within an art gallery is a preferred
