Web Engineer

Berlin,London

SoundCloud empowers artists, tastemakers and fans to connect and share through music. Founded in 2007, SoundCloud is a creator-first platform helping artists build and grow their careers by providing them with the most advanced tools, services, and resources. With over 4x the music catalogue of every other major streaming platform, spanning 40+ million artists across 190+ countries, SoundCloud is where emerging artists find their sound, hidden gems are discovered, and music culture is shaped in real time.

We are seeking a seasoned and talented Web Engineer with a strong background in payments, web development, and JavaScript to join a focused feature team of three engineers. As part of the newly formed Revenue Group Web Team, you will own the web surfaces, desktop and mobile web that bring SoundCloud's ads and payments products to life for millions of users.

Your work will support us on our mission: deliver the web infrastructure and features that fuel SoundCloud’s revenue engine. Better ad experiences keep users listening longer. Seamless checkout flows drive subscription growth. Our work directly impacts both the health of the business and the experience of every SoundCloud fan and creator.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain user-facing web features that support ads, subscriptions, and creator commerce
  • Work pragmatically within a large, established codebase, incrementally modernising legacy areas while shipping new features.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and other web teams
  • Contribute to the development of new ad formats (display, video, audio pods) and ad experimentation frameworks
  • Develop and optimise checkout and payment flows that are secure, accessible, and conversion-driven
  • Participate in technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and roadmap planning
  • Ensure performance, scalability, and maintainability of SoundCloud’s web surfaces
  • Debug complex issues across systems and browsers, ensuring a consistent experience for users globally
  • Advocate for best practices in accessibility, testing, and front-end performance

Background and Experience:

  • 4–6 years of professional experience building modern web applications
  • Deep knowledge of TypeScript, React,  and modern web tooling (e.g., Next.js, Vite)
  • Ability to analyse and optimise web application performance, including identifying and addressing bottlenecks and implementing performance enhancements
  • Solid grasp of web performance, accessibility, and responsive design principles
  • Experience integrating payments, ads, or other complex third-party SDKs/APIs
  • A product-oriented perspective—you care about the “why,” not just the “how”
  • Experience with observability tools and techniques, such as logging, monitoring, and error tracking, to ensure high availability and performance
  • A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with experimentation or A/B testing frameworks
  • Familiarity with ad tech or payments systems (Recurly, Adyen, etc.)
  • Experience contributing to large-scale web performance or monetisation projects

About us:

  • We are a multinational company with offices in the US (New York and Los Angeles), Germany (Berlin), and the UK (London)
  • We provide a flexible work culture that offers the opportunity to collaborate and connect in person at our offices as well as accommodate work from home
  • We are deeply committed to ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of our organisation and fostering a community where everyone’s voice, perspective, and experience is respected and heard
  • We believe a strong team is made by investing in employees through mentorship, workshops, and enrichment opportunities

Benefits:

  • Interested in a gym membership, photography course or book? We have a Creativity and Wellness benefit!
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan
  • Generous professional development allowance
  • Flexible vacation and public holiday policy where you can take up to 35 days of PTO annually
  • 16 paid weeks for all parents (birthing and non-birthing), regardless of gender, to welcome newborns, adopted, and foster children
  • We offer free German courses for all levels
  • Various snacks, goodies, and 2 free lunches weekly when at the office

By submitting your application, you expressly consent to your data being transferred to the USA for processing as described above.

Retention Period

In the event that your application results in an offer of employment, information collected during the recruitment process will be incorporated into your permanent personnel record. This data will be retained for the duration of your employment and for a subsequent period as required by local statutory regulations and legal limitation periods.

For candidates who do not enter into an employment relationship with us:

  • United States: We will retain your information for a minimum of 1 year following the final hiring decision to ensure compliance with federal record-keeping mandates. If you have opted into our talent pool for future opportunities, your data will be retained for 5 years, or until you opt out of the talent pool or request that your data be deleted
  • Rest of World: Your application data will be deleted no later than 6 months after the position has been filled. If you have provided explicit consent to be considered for future recruitment cycles, we will maintain your information for 1 year from the date consent was granted.

Under the GDPR, you have the right to request access to your personal data, to request that your personal data be rectified or erased, and to request that processing of your personal data be restricted. You also have the right to data portability and the right to object. You also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
