BDC Controller

Sound Point Capital Management, a credit-oriented investment manager overseeing approximately $44 billion in total assets, is seeking to hire for a newly formed position to manage the Finance and Accounting of a soon-to-be- launched private BDC. This position is ideal for a CPA who seeks to take his or her career to the next level by expanding a growing platform with a highly successful direct lending/private credit team.

Sound Point has a diverse product line which includes CLOs and various funds that invest in stressed and distressed credit, commercial real estate, structured products, consumer loans, and corporate special situations. Based in New York, the firm employs more than 200 talented individuals globally and has grown steadily since inception.
Role Overview

As our BDC Controller, you will be responsible for the end-to-end accounting, finance, and reporting activities for our BDC. You’ll coordinate seamlessly with third-party administrators, prepare monthly and quarterly deliverables, monitor regulatory compliance, and partner closely with the investment team.

Responsibilities

Accounting & Reporting
o    Coordinate fund accounting workflow and review third-party administrator deliverables for accuracy and GAAP conformity.
o    Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly financial reports for senior management and investors.
Regulatory Compliance & SEC Filings
o    Monitor BDC-specific regulatory tests (Investment Company Act of 1940, RIC status) and support Form 10-Q/10-K filings.
o    Ensure all disclosures meet public-offering and board-reporting standards.
Investment Team Support
o    Deliver hands-on analytical support: update financial models, manage liquidity metrics, and respond to ad-hoc requests.
o    Liaise with Investor Relations to draft quarterly investor decks and earnings releases.
Valuation Oversight & Reporting Enhancements
o    Oversee asset-valuation processes and liaise on pricing methodologies.
o    Partner with Operations and Technology to drive reporting improvements and automate key workflows.
Board & Investor Materials
o    Prepare materials for the BDC board of trustees, audit committees, and key investors.
o    Respond to external investor inquiries, including return calculations and performance summaries.
Research & Development
o    Research new accounting pronouncements, assess their impact on financial statements, and implement updates across the finance team.

 

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.

• 7-10 years of public/private accounting experience, including alternative-investment or fund accounting.

• Experience with BDC structures and/or SEC reporting required.

• Track record managing relationships with administrators, auditors, and legal counsel.

• Deep understanding of GAAP, fair-value hierarchy, and internal-control frameworks.

• Exceptional communicator: able to translate complex financial data into clear narratives for senior leaders and investors.

• Highly organized and detail oriented.

 

Base Salary Range

$150,000 - $175,000 plus bonus eligible
